Expecting BIG Litter! I'm both excited and nervous! My 5 year old Versace is expecting her 4th and final litter and the X-rays show 6-7 babies! Yikes! She has successfully whelped a litter of 5 but was unsuccessful with a previous litter of 6. Sace is in excellent health but she's also huge! During her last two pregnancies, I used vitamins and supplements from Breeders Edge and I believe they were instrumental in her having quick labor and healthy puppies. She whelped 5 puppies in 1 hour 45 mins. One of the supplements assures that uterine contractions are strong and effective. About 3-4 days prior to whelping, I place her on a Breeders Edge nursing supplement that assists in milk production and body recovery. Each puppy also receives a dose of Breeders Edge Colostrum supplement upon birth and additional doses if they show signs of weakness. My vet and I agree that a C-section will only be done in an emergency situation where whelping is difficult or prolonged. I'm already prepared for whelping but am hoping she doesn't whelp prior to 58 days. She's presently 49 days. My mentor says she has faith in me that I can handle a big litter whelping but I've requested that she be on-call just for my peace of mind. She's logistically closer to me than my vet! Any experienced breeders out there who have dealt with big litters? :aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
Well, early congratulations. That it sooo exciting. Pray mom & babies will do fine. Happy this is not your 1st time, wow, 6 baby angels. Would love to see them. Good luck. |
Shicks, promise I'll share pictures. Mom is doing great and I believe the Breeders Edge vitamins contribute to her healthy condition. She's in week 8 so not too much longer before little paws will steal my heart. I already have forever homes for 5 but the xray surprised me with #6 or possibly #7. |
Here they are! 1 Attachment(s) My girl did it! She gave birth to 7 beautiful Yorkies on Saturday, August 12th. It took approximately 6 hours but she remained strong as I give her a calcium supplement throughout delivery. She had 5 boys and 2 girls, however, 1 boy was born dead. He appeared to have been the victim of a lack of space. He was fully developed but just didn't have room to remain stretched out. My vet will examine him tomorrow during the appointment to get tails docked. All 6 remaining pups are strong and healthy, ranging in weight from 3.3 ozs to 5.6 ozs. This is Versace's last litter and did she ever go out with a bang! She's recovering well and will be spayed on 10/23/2018 after all pups have gone to their forever homes. She's 5 years old and it's time to retire. Thank you Versace for the beautiful offspring that you have given us throughout your years of reproduction. Now it's time for to rest sweet baby girl!Attachment 412666 |
Congratulations, beautiful chubby babies, so sad a lil boy didn't make it, happy to hear momma is doing good. |
Thanks "Matese"! The date was Saturday the 11th, I accidently typed the 12th. She had them on day 59. I lovingly call the biggest one Fatty, because he's almost twice as big as the smallest one, lol! |
