Breeding Hi, My girl went into season on the 7th of August. She was bred from day 8 till day 20. I own the sire as well. This seems like a long period for her to stand( 2weeks). Do I still count from the 1st day of mating? Would the pups conceived on day 17 be premature? This will be her 2cnd litter. Previously she stood for about 1 week and gave birth 62 days later. Thanks. |
All puppies are conceived the same day. If 1 is a little behind the other which is common it's usually due to poor placement inside of utero causing that pup to develop at a slower rate. |
As someone who is purposely and actively breeding I would think you would know the basics. I'm also curious as to why you allowed them to breed for so many days? |

Thanks everyone. Did not realize it would go on so long. Crated, used diapers and belly bands. Thought it was over and the mated again. Never had this happen before. Hence the post... |

Thanks for your replies. I am aware that dogs can have pups from different father's. I also know they ovulate more than once. What I did not realize is that when I removed diapers, belly bands and let them be together on day 20, they would mate again. I thought (hoped) her standing time was over. That is the reason I asked whether someone pups would be premature.:animal36 |
