Possible New Puppy Hello All~ I am in talks with a breeder that is a little far away. We have seen multiple pictures and videos of the puppy we are thinking about buying. She is requesting a deposit through PayPal and the rest when we pick her up. What are your thoughts about paypal? Do you normally sign the contract when deposit is made? What does everyone think? Thanks |
From my experience in purchasing dogs from reputable breeders it is not normal to sign a contract upon issuing a deposit. That said, I guess certain breeders do require this but I would be very careful. |
Actually you should see ahead of time the contract you will be signing. On day of pickup I signed all paperwork including Ckc registration papers that showed me as the new owner. There can be a lot of distractions and excitement when picking up the puppy. |
There should not be a problem using Paypay to make a deposit if you know the breeder and trust her. Most of the time deposits are non-refundable. You should know what kind of contract she has before you agree to make the deposit. There are a lot of scammers out there that that will furnish all kinds of pictures but when they get your deposit they disappear. Is this a breeder that you know? Do they have a website? Do they have references? How old is the pup now and at what age will you be able to get the pup? What kind of registration papers are given? These are all the things you should know before putting a deposit down. |
PayPal is dafe, especially if you have a problem. They protect both seller and buyer. My deposits are refundable but I know most aren't so check out the breeder carefully. Contracts are usually given at the time of delivery. |
