Breeder Question Hi, I'm new to yorkies but am planning to purchase 2 for Christmas. I have been looking for breeders in my area and found one about 4 hours away from me. Before committing to buying puppies from this breeder I want to make sure that she's legit and not a scammer or a bad breeder I should avoid. So my question is has anyone heard of Whitney's Yorkies a.k.a Remarkable Yorkies? She's located in Ellington Missouri. Thanks in advance. |
Did you ever get information? I'd be interested in what you found! |
I think the first thing you should know is that a reputable breeder does not sell their puppies to be used as Christmas presents. It's a crazy hectic time of year, and the little ones are more at risk of being forgotten, abandoned later when the novelty wears off, or hurt in all the hustle and bustle if the season. You can give a gift of doggy goods (bowls, blankets, toys, etc) with a note that says "When you're ready, I'll help you bring a little one home." That way, the recipient (whether individual or family) can prepare themselves for the new family member. |

I disagree and thankfully several breeders I spoke to (yes reputable) didn't have a problem with it either. I think it's silly to assume someone is impulse buying or will forget about and abandon a puppy because they happen to want to give one as a gift on Christmas day. My mother has wanted a yorkie for years and since her birthday had already passed naturally I was wanting to surprise her at Christmas. Geez. Thanks for your concerns though, you can rest easy knowing I couldn't wait and already got a puppy weeks ago. Anyway this post is rather old and I didn't get much help when I first posted it but to the person who wanted to know what I found out about the breeder. I did talk to her a little on facebook and she was friendly enough and seemed knowledgeable but after searching this forum I saw one of her old posts from years ago on here and read the comments and it wasn't good. It was clear she was a backyard breeder. To be fair it was years ago and maybe she's changed her business practices but I made the decision to go with a different breeder. |
