nursing mother yorkie hi my dog fifi has delivered 5 puppies last Thursday they are now nearly a week old and doing fine, my dog has had bad diarrhea for the last day or so, any advice , should I cut back on her food is there anything that i can do to help her |
It really would be best to get her to the vet. Since she is nursing puppies it could be very dangerous for her and the pups if it continues. The vet would know what would be safe to give her since she is nursing. Are you giving her additional calcium? Adding some pure canned pumpkin to her diet can help firm up the stools. What are you feeding her? |
You have to be very attentive and careful about making changes in a nursing mommas diet...she is supporting babies, and an imbalance in mommas diet will go straight down to the babies...and the entire shooting match can get screwed up. Have you been giving her supplemental calcium in mommas diet, since she is supporting herself as well as a large litter. I would have her checked at the vet, blood chemistry done, so you will know where you are with her.....diarrhea can bleed off calcium levels, and with babies on her, that is additional calcium draw..... |
Hello to you and to your puppy, That's my problem before because of the sensitive stomach our dog can have diarrhea! Now I settle that problem before because of the advice of my vet when I go for her check up and he gave me eukanuba and after 2-4 days my pup back to normal and after a week I go back to my vet for check her health again and my vet said my pup is looking good and more healthy than before, that's why till now this is my good choice when it comes to dog food and so far so good don't have any issue about this, for me this is the best dog food for my babies. |
nursing mother thanks for the advice , have given her natural yogurt and changed her diet got special puppy food for her and the vet says its normal for this to happen as she is cleaning up after the puppies and her tummy would be sensitive for a while , keeping a good close watch on her. |
