10 months and pregnant

Hey all,
I understand there has been a recent post about a 7 1/2 months old dam pregnant. I read, not finding all of the answers I have been looking for.

I have a 10 (almost 11) month old bitch who, nature willing, was found tied with my parents male during thanksgiving break. Now, before everyone starts arguing with me, I am aware this is far too young. I was never planning for this to happen. I am going to the vet this week.

I am here to ask for input and if anyone else has been in this situation? Did you continue with the pregnancy? Or abort the pups? My female is about 7 1/2lbs, while the male is 8lbs. I have heard this doesn't matter and what does is the lineage. Still very concerned! Please let me know if you have had something similar happen and the choices you made! Also, money is not a factor at all. My husband owns a business and I am stay at home (if this helps). Thank you again

Hi and welcome to YT :)!

To be totally honest...if it were me, I'd abort the pups ASAP...this poor little girl is SO young and believe me, you do *not* want to jump into breeding in this manner, if ever at all. I would never, ever put my babies' lives at risk via breeding...I'll leave that to the experts.

Keep your girl safe, let her be just a beloved pet, get her spayed asap, and don't add to the pet over population that currently results in 3-4 million pets being euthanized every single here in the US. :)

Thanks for your input. The reason my mother has the male, was to breed them after her 3rd or 4th heat.

We have family who already decided they want puppies, so they would be going tp great homes...

I am taking her to the vet but I couldn't get an appointment until Monday of next week. I am going to asl the vet what is best and do that...this is stressful..because i really do not like the idea of aborting pups...but if the vet says it is best for mom then I am going to do it. Thanks again

Praying the vet is aware of all the issues that Yorkies can have with pregnancy and delivery....as well as unfortunate mixing of pedigrees and resulting pups with genetic disorders for future owners to deal with....heartbreaking.

Both dogs are AKC registered and I have the right to breed them...I did not plan for this to happen... I have already stated that if the vet suggests even the tiniest hint to not continue with the pregnancy, or that hte puppies may inherit problems, it will not be done. I do not want to be a life time breeder, I simply wanted to experience something amazing, but it did not happen the way I had planned...

If the vet suggests she is fine, the puppies would already have great homes waiting for them.

Sounds like a sad situation to me. I'd abort. Poor girl.

Praying for momma and babies. Vets are not breeders and are clueless about lines and pedigrees of dogs that are compatible and those that are not, and the possible genetic issues that may be predisposed with a mis-mating with two incompatable dogs. They see a pregnant dog and they see $$$$....possible c-section, follow up care for momma and babies, possible resuscitative efforts for new borns, possible 24 hour care of newborns by owners, feeding around the clock, etc.....INCOME!!!!!

The fortunate thing is, the people you give/sell these babies to, (unaware of the pedigrees behind them, whether they are even compatable and will result in unhealthy babies) will know where to find you as the breeder, to help financially with any health disasters they may get with these puppies from unproven stock. That will be a good thing FOR THEM, if it comes to that......

Just out of curiosity, since you did say you are planning on breeding, what lines are behind these two dogs? Need to go back at least 9 generations, with a good working knowledge of what mixes and what does not mix....that will usually dilute out minor genetic issues, but only if care has been taken along the way to not double up on your lines. Of course, there are lines you just do NOT mix....separately, they are fantastic, gorgeous, healthy dogs....but if mixed with particular pedigrees, it is like mixing oil and water....you will have issues....Fortunately, since you are planning to get into breeding yorkies, you have researched all this information and know what pedigrees to mix and who not to EVER mix! As responsible, reputable breeders, we do not ever plunge headlong into breeding, totally oblivious to what dogs pedigrees mix and what dogs should never be combined. As a responsible, reputable breeder, we stand behind our dogs and what they produce, our reputations as trustworthy breeders demands this, for the life of the babies.....but you already know all this! And of course, you have a vet on call 24/7, with extensive knowledge about yorkies, breeding, whelping, and hand rearing orphaned newborns. Your vet may even know about pedigrees.....not often does that happen, but she may, as vets that specialize in breeding/whelping yorkies (or whatever breed they specialize in) often do.....

The most difficult part of it all, is when I hold my momma's and look into their adoring eyes, and ask her and myself, "Is your life worth producing this planned litter of puppies".....that is a question I ask of all my breeding females. Thank God I put so much effort, so much research, and so much money into selecting my foundation breeding stock, I have never lost a momma having a litter of puppies.....but I have had to deliver by c-section or momma and babies would have died....Thank God for my vet, her head tech, and her anesthesiologist that are on call when I am whelping! Be sure you have your team on call 24/7! It cost a lot, but at least you may not loose your momma or babies to complications!

Oh and by the way. I am deleting my account because of your rude, sarcastic, wat of talking to others. Just know that you, Yorkiemom1, are no better of a person than others. Accidents happen. I am not an irresponsible person. I looked into this and have decided to abort the puppies and spay my baby girl immediately. You and a mean, careless person who thinks anyone that is not a full time breeder knows nothing about yorkies and you are completely wrong. I hope you understand the way you are writing is coming off super rude. I am done with this sight!

I am thankful you have realized neither you nor your little lady is ready for breeding. You should stick around the forum, you could possibly learn much, much more that would save your pups lives in the future. THAT is what is most important to me, decisions made in the best interest of the dogs. Dont "punish" your dogs by shutting out valuable information you need, just because you dont approve of the messenger or the delivery system. LEARN, rather than LEAVE!!! As far as "not being better a person than others", I have no doubt that is true, and I never professed that to be reality....but I can honestly say I have never stumbled ignorantly, blindly into any situation that could result in the death of one of my dogs, then got my panties in a wad because someone much more informed and experienced, spent their valuable time and effort and opened my eyes.....I have always been grateful when people that know more about ANY subject, take their valuable time to try to educate me, because they owe me nothing....it is much appreciated when I have been taught/educated by people that know more than I do! Regardless of the delivery, I have always appreciated the time and effort they took, out of nothing but concern for the possible effect/outcome. I have to admit, there was a ton of information and direction I shared with you, even if you were not able/willing to recognize or appreciate it. All I can do is try, for the sake of the dogs, nothing else.

myohmeitstori 11-30-2015 01:02 PM

if you were trying to help me you would not have come accross as such an ignorant person. Like the previous comment left before you, she said the same thing you did in a much nicer and understandable way. All I am saying is that the way you come accross will not encourage anyone to stay here nor listen to anything you have to sa . A truly knowledgable breeder is not going to brag about how much they know. I came here for help and what I have recieved from you is nothing more than, "Look at me! I am the worlds greatest breeder and anyone who disagrees is immature and unworthy!"

If I would have chosen to keep the pups, I could learn everything I needed to know on this sights forums alone. But, I am happy that you are producing championship bloodlines. Since, that is all that matters.

myohmeitstori 11-30-2015 01:06 PM

Deleting my account is not punishing my dogs. Do you hear yourself? Basically telling me that I know NOTHING about the dogs I have? All because I posted a thread asking for advice. Maybe you are right...maybe I should stick around this sight so that I can learn how to properly feed and water my dog! Maybe I will also learn how to scoop up poop and even maybe teach my dogs to sit! Wow, wouldn't that be something! Thank you again, for assuming I am a twelve year old girl who doesn't know how to care for a dog. Also, thank you for showing your true colors of judgement! Seeing as you know absolutely nothing about me, my life, or my dogs.

Let me put it to you this way,

Say you took in an old gelding (by the way, that is a neutured horse). Now, you have had the horse for a little over a month. You realize, after looking online, "Oh my goodness! I am supposed to have my horses seen by a farrier monthly! I better call one and make an appointment"! So you do, and along comes the farrier. He asks you when was the last time your horses feet have been checked so you tell him a little over a month ago. He laughs and calls you names and makes you feel like you do not deserve to own this old rescue horse because you are a week late on the call. Now, do you ever go back to that farrier again? No. you dont.

No. you dont.

I was involved with breeding and showing Arabian Horses for years....I know what a gelding is, but thank you!....I appreciate any education the farrier can impart to me, including but not limited to doing my OWN hoof care/trimming/shoeing, which they did! You can rest assured I would have nown all about farriers, and had reputable one lined up to teach me what I needed to know! WHO called YOU names??? Your farrier?? Certainly not me!! If the farrier did a great job on my horse, which is why he was contacted, I personally would have appreciated the time and effort he spent, trying to educate me about farriers and shoeing, especially if he was doing it for FREE, strictly out of love for horses and getting the job done correctly! I personally have always appreciated any time and effort ANYONE invested in trying to educate me in any area. I can honestly say I have never attacked or insulted anyone that spent even 15 seconds of their valuable, precious time, trying to show me something, or teach me something, especially in areas where I was totally uninformed. Of course, I sincerely appreciated the fact that they were devoted to making certain I did not stumble blindly ahead, endangering my animal's lives, through my uninformed ignorance. It never mattered to me HOW they imparted the valuable information.....I understood not everyone teaches or reasons or speaks like me, and I have always appreciated any time or effort anyone has taken in an effort to educate me, because I learned long ago that no one owes me anything, and anything they impart to me, I will appreciate.
