Where to begin if I want to breed Enzo? Hello! My Enzo's a year and a half old and I'd like to offer his stud services at a small cost but have no idea where to begin. I did receive AKC paperwork when I purchased him but haven't registered him yet. Will that help me find breeders interested in using him? Or can I find some here? Any tips or guidance is appreciated. Thanks! |

Enzo has a really sweet face so I see why you want to breed him but there is more to it than just a handsome face. I learned that with Buster as I have spent over $7000.00 in his medical bills in his first two years on issues resulting from poor breeding including him having arthritis from the age of one. I think as you read through threads you will see how serious proper breeding is. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yt-...und-breed.html |
I wont even approach this from the angle of quality/pedigree or dog being bred.....reputable breeders know their dogs pedigrees for many generations back....back yard breeders are not concerned with this knowledge, they throw dogs together, have babies, sell babies with probable genetic issues to unsuspecting people that then get stuck, either loosing their precious new baby to some incurable disease or they face thousands of dollars trying to fix what poor breeding has done to those babies. The thing YOU need to concern yourself with, is if you sire a litter of babies and a well informed buyer gets one of those puppies, and it ends up costing them thousands and thousands of dollars, trying to save it or cure what poor breeding has caused, fortunately, they are starting to get smart and they are suing breeders for crappy bred dogs they are sold that end up costing them thousands of dollars to keep them alive.....and they are winning! THAT is a wonderful thing! THAT may be the one thing that puts a stop to people that have no idea about breeding healthy dogs from healthy breeding lines, from reproducing genetically damaged/inferior dogs that are plagued with diseases or congenital deformities! So if you are going to be breeding your dog, get well versed in his genetic background and know what the genetic background is with females you are going to breed him to. Must know back at least 9 generations, preferably 12 generations, both top and bottom, to avoid defects in the combination of the pedigrees. Have a bank account stocked in case you get sued for breeding puppies that end up costing the buyer thousands of dollars in vet bills,........ and then, enjoy all the glory we breeders enjoy! Everytime the phone rings, you can worry if it is because something is wrong with the puppy your young man threw, or perhaps the owner wants to send the vet bills for YOUR share of the disaster they just lived thru! |

Show breeders have little interest in a stud that has not been shown to his championship nor health tested for breeding. Where do you start? Well of course register him with AKC. Then show him. Go to many many shows yourself to start to learn about proper structure and to meet other yorkie breeders. Join a Yorkie club - if that is not available to you a toy breed club and or just a general dog club. In terms of this site - advertising for stud service is not allowed. You have no idea right now if your boy is breed worthy. Learn about all the health problems of Yorkies - The Sick and Emergency forum will give you just oodles of information on the health woes of Yorkies. As a stud owner you are ethically responsible for the lives you bring into this world. Are you prepared for that? Financially and emotionally? |
To the original poster .If you love this breed ... Please DO NOT do this !Please let the professionals who have been doing this for years continue . The mistakes that can be made will cause pain , suffering and financial hardship to you , the pups and the buyers . Once done , you can undo what happened . |
