transitioning puppies to "solid" food My baby girl had puppies who are now about to be three weeks old on Sunday, although I'm not going to wean them yet, I would actually prefer for them to be weaned naturally but I would like to know what recipes are out there, you know like some people will add egg whites and such to the puppy food to make a gruel. The more detailed the better, thanks! :) |
There are many threads on weaning already in this section. You can learn much by reading through some of them. My preferred method is to grind up some dry puppy food until it is a real fine meal. I place a small bowl of this in the pen with the pups once they are up and walking around, usually around 3 1/2 to 4 weeks of age. I also place a small, shallow bowl of water in their pen. You can also make a gruel using the ground up puppy food and some puppy formula or some canned puppy food. I usually leave the dry food out plus I give them some moist food a few times a day. Weaning is a slow process so don't expect much at first, especially if your momma has lots of milk and is feeding her baby often. |
