need advice now Having pups as I type - first time mom howsoon do they need to nurse after birth - she is more interested in cleaning the dickens out of them and won't let them get a good grip. All the research I have done and still I am taken by surprise!! Thanks in advance for any help. |
Wow...how exciting....unfortunately I am not a breeder but I will try to find the answer since no one has responded yet. How many babies so far?? |
I just PM'd YorkieRose, a very experienced breeder. She should respond very soon. Congratulations by the way...we love puppies here! :) |
Hi, I usually put the pups on to nurse as soon as they are born and then remove them before the next one whelps...the mothers don't always appreciate it at first. Watch the pups carefully until she gets used to them. After they are all whelped there is plenty of time for a really good nursing! I am sure Pat will have much more to add, but I hope this is a start... |
Puppy Power I emailed Pat. Hope she replies soon. So far 2 puppies but don't know the sex yet. Thanks to all. |
Congratulations on the puppies. Keep us posted. |
pups Let them settle and warm. When she is done, she should get the hang of it..you can put them to the nipple and encourage her to lay down, pet her back and head to soothe her.. They came out of mom with a full belly, so they can go for a few hours yet..even overnight, but we always feel better to see them nurse soon. Best of luck |
Sorry not a breeder either- but glad Kim emailed Pat for ya...hopefully she or someone else will be in soon-- good luck and congrats!! |
oops...see Pat was here already- guess I am postin slow tonight....good luck again |
Wow Well, we have too fat little babies and they are nursing!!! Piper - mom - didn't cry once and did VERY WELL!!! I am so proud of her!!! Don't know the sex yet but that's ok - after they have had a little while longer I will weigh and all that good stuff!! I am sooooo excited!! I will post more later and my husband has promised to figure out this picture thing for me!!! Like I said before you can prepare everything and still be caught up in it all and forget your own name!!!!! :D :D :D :D |
Congrats! YorkieRose gave the best advice in the above post. All I can add is that I have squeezed a little milk out and put their mouth on it to get them to nursing right after birth. I'm sure they are going to nurse after mom settles down. Keep us posted. |
Glad all is well! Congratulations! |
Congrats on the new pups!!! :) |
