Little Hart Kennels-Texas

Has anyone herd of them?
Has gotten a pup from them?
Know someone that did get one?

I can't really find much about them online. They do have a Facebook and have a lot of positive reviews but that's about it.

I did visit the home 2 weeks ago and fell in love with a baby, but I want to be careful.

They are in Marion Texas, just outside of San Antonio, Texas.

Thanks!:)

There is a few red flags. . . .

They use the term teacup. As you know that is a term used by only back yard breeders and puppy mills for money. They dogs are in a kennel, not living underfoot. No reputable breeder would breed like this. They have at least 12 breeding females and 4 males. It is listed on the site.

I personally would find a different breeder. . . Remember all puppies are adorable. You want the best bred pup you can get. You will be glad you waited.

One last thing.. . . I was told once. . . When you look for a puppy, you buy the breeder. I really feel it is true. Experience, health and welfare of the pup. Spend a little more but you will save years of vet bills.

I would pass on the pup.

Good luck. You will find your pup and be so glad you waited !

Thank you so much for your reply, I don't think I'm going to this breeder any more then, it sucks because it was the only breeder I could find near me. Also money is not a problem, I'm not looking to find a "cheap" Yorkie, I understand that yorkies could be expensive especially the smaller ones, which is what I'm looking for, a 3-4lbs yorkie.

He did let me walk around his home, see all the puppies and the parents. I did walk around the area the dogs stay in and it looked nice and clean to me. I was almost going to put a deposit down for a puppy I loved but I decided to wait. Glad I did!

I've been to another "kennel" in lavernia called Granny grump Pups and they were definitely a puppy mill.

Yorkies should be a minimum of 4lbs so anyone who breeds to intentionally have puppies smaller than this are not ethical and should be avoided.

Tiny yorkies are not very cute when they are sick or dead so I would think carefully about what you want ie. a companion or attention from others based on your dogs size.

I think chi's are smaller, naturally, but you would have to research that to make sure.

Good luck and good choice in avoiding what sounds like a puppy mill!

If you want a guarantee on weight then you should consider a 1yr old or older dog. Nobody can guarantee a 3-4 lb Yorkie - nor do good breeders breed for 3-4 lbs. The breed ideally to hit somewhere around 5-7 lbs as fully grown adults. And some will be heavier and some lighter but you just don't breed to produce 3-4 lb adults

PrincessTani92 03-26-2015 07:44 AM

Okay, thank you.

Yorkiemom1 03-26-2015 08:07 AM

I worry about allowing people that are looking for puppies, to walk all over the house.....speaking from experience, that man did not know where you had been looking at puppies and you could easily be bringing parvo in on your shoes and clothes....and if anyone has done this, he is probably going to have problems when the next litter arrives....The second thing that personally bothers me.....I do not like letting "tiny, teacup puppies" go out to people I do not know!!! Did you fill out any interview application so he would at the very least know if you could successfully raise and care for a tiny little Yorkie? They do require a higher level of care and diligence and precautionary supervision as they are more fragile....... just a few things that caught my attention and concern....

I love this breeder

HI,

This is actually my first post ever and when i came across this threat I just had to reply to it. About 2 years ago, we adopted our little baby from Little Hart kennel. At first, I was skeptical since I really didn't want to end up buying from a mill, so we took the trip to Marion TX from Austin to make sure about the quality of life these pups had. Tango was only 3 months old and we totally fell in love with him. I don't know much about mills but I do know he was a happy pup. The house was spotless and the puppies had lots of room to run around and play in the back yard. We also had the AKC certification approved by the American Kennel Club. You can certainly do your own research and you should...but this was the best place for us. Tango is a very healthy and sweet dog (he is also only 5lbs, like the house owner predicted). He has a lot of personality and brightens our lives every day. In fact, I really want to find him a girlfriend soon before we finally decide to neuter him. Good luck!

ironmike86 03-31-2015 06:36 PM

With out knowing her. Just off her FB I wouldn't go to her. She she's tines for a high price. You never know the size. I've seen tiny Yorkies remain tiny till 6-7 mothn then take off ...to a larger size. But she prices then pretty high. A 4lbs for $1800..?? Fairs price depending on linage..imo. I would pay to a backyard breeder. She raise them in sheds?? The good thing is she keeps them for 12weeks. I wouldn't support the breeder with my money. But this is a just a judgement without knowing her or all the fact.

I decided to get a baby from Little Hart Kennel, I have visited his house 3 times already and feel very comfortable about my decision.
I also spoke to a few other women on Facebook that have gotten babies from them, and they all had positive things to say, and some even showed me picures of there babies and they look so beautiful and healthy.

I'm very excited to pick my little Daisy next week!(:

I made this post wanting to know if anyone had gotten a puppy from them or know someone that did but instead I got some backlash and also from others about wanting a 3-4lb yorkie.
I don't really care about anyone's opinion on "teacup" Yorkies or that he over priced them, I've been on other websites that sell 4-5lb yorkies for $3,000-$5,000. Also it's my money so I will do what I like with my money.
That's all I have to say about this, I'm no longer checking this post so don't waist your time replying. Thanks.

Well one sign that there not good breeders is that there was not spay and neuter contract. Reputable breeders work very hard for there lines and do not want everyone breeding them. Your dog will also be extremely different after breeding him.

What a shame this is definitely not a reputable breeder.

That's really sad because bad breeders are ruining the breed we love so much. They are also doing bad things. Well you were warned........... Your money or not supporting a bad breeder is wrong. Most of us have lived through bad breeders and heart break because of it. We know what to look for and what makes a breeder reputable. Teacup was a word made up by bad breeders period no reputable breed would be associated with that word.

lillymae 03-31-2015 09:08 PM

I agree, I would not purchase from this breeder. I may get jumped for this but as someone with a great deal of experience with Chiari malformation, There is one pup I see in the puppy pics that I would bet my next breath is having some kind of an issue with either it's neck or skull.

Your right. Your money. But you did ask. PPL gave opinions. Experienced ppl who may have had problem puppies with noting to gain tell u theres. PPl who price dogs and use teacup to get money. Who don't breed to the high standards but sell for alot of money = greeder. You are paying more for your pup then I just paid for Weenie. Whos Grandpa is 2011 Westminster BOB and Great GP is World CH. With both sire and dam are CH. who happen to be on the small size so not ideal for showing. Not more because she was small. Good luck with you puppy

Also, is it just me or do some of those pups not even look like full yorkie. A couple seem to have really short hair compared to the others. A couple almost look like chi/yorkie mix.

AlwaysTexas 04-01-2015 09:22 AM

Many of the puppies are a poor representation of a well bred yorkie. Some don't even look like a yorkie. JMO

ironmike86 04-01-2015 03:12 PM

PPL who sell them for $4k -5k also ..better have breeding rights and some serious lineage... they don't go for that much pet quality.

I agree about Chi/yorkie mix - several pups are strongly suggestive of this.

Winnie is gorgeous!
Good reply. I was once like the OP. I was 100% ignorant about dog breeding. I wanted a small cute yorkie and was willing to spend my savings to get one. My 3.5lb biewer (breeder adult est.) is now 6.5. He has chari and horriable knees. I am grateful for the information I have learned from others who are willing to share their knowledge and experience to help others here.
To the OP . Why ask for others opinion if you really didn't want it? Not sure what made you angry? I read a reply the other day that had me laughing out loud. Someone said "let me go wash the eggshells off the bottom of my feet" too funny
I can understand feeling upset over rude replys but there were none.

After re-reading the posts I see what made her upset. She felt she was being judged for wanting a teacup. I have learned here there is no such thing as a teacup and people who take the tinies and breed them to produce what they call teacups are unethical and care nothing about the dogs. they do it for $. (See you've taught me well). I have a tiny, 2.6, that was breed from a show breeder in Romulus MI. I recently looked up her linage. Her name is Belle of the Ball. She is now 5, beautiful and healty ( does have LP's #2)
I didn't get her because I wanted attention from others. I rarely take her out. I have a large extended family and she gets enough socialization from our visitors. I got her because I thought she was adorable. Pre YT if I were looking, I would jump all over a current e-bay classified pet listing for 1.1lb 12 week old ,in warren MI from flowman75. The new me would see a huge red flag and look the other way. Now, post YT, my advise to the OP would be, If you have your heart set on a tiny, do your research and find a good breeder following the advice learned here . If the breeder thinks you'd be a good mom for one 3lbs or under I'm sure you could get on her waiting list.
The small ones do require more care. I'm a stay at home wife so she's rarely left alone. She has to be feed by hand or she won't eat. And she loves to be held, if shes not on my lap I'm carrying her around with me. My husband calls her my parasite and has threatened to buy velco and permanely attach her to my chest. LOL

I remember my vet once told me "I'd never trust a breeder who prices their pups by their weight." It's the quality of the dog that sets the $ not the lb.

Exactly my point. Besides you can't tell or guarantee the size. I've seen tinies get large they were just slow starters. Some are smaller some are larger. But usually they price the same in the litter. Some litters may cost more but to price one $800 and another for $1500 in the same litter because of size?? The runt may end up bigger anyways.
