She's acting real sad?!?

My 9month old Yorkie poo is about 35 days pregnant and for the last 3-4 days she's been acting a little sad. I'm not sure if it's just bbecause she's pregnant and uncomfortable our something wrong? Please help! Is this normal? Her little belly is just now starting to show. I know she shouldn't have gotten pregnant on her first heat but it honestly happen to fast, and now i just want what's best for my baby! Please help this is my first ever puppy pregnancy.

She mated with a Maltese poodle who is about 6lbs. And she's 7lbs.

It is normal for a pregnant female to act and feel differently when they are pregnant. I know you are aware that she was much to young to breed. Ideally it would of been best to have her spayed as soon as she went out of heat. Now you have to prepare yourself for what is ahead. There are many things that can go wrong with a pregnancy. Have you ever delivered a litter before? Often first time young mothers have a hard time delivering. Make sure you have a vet lined up in case she needs a c-section. When it is near the time for her to deliver make sure she is not left alone.
If you are not experienced in delivering pups then please find someone that is to help you. Please keep us informed on how she does. I pray all goes well.

I am aware that she is to young to breed, it was a complete accident. I'm not a breeder I'm just a dog parent and I'm a little nervous. I went out and got some of her favorite treats and she's a little happier, But I've realized that she's very sad and down looking when My other dog is around (he's the one who got her pregnant). It seems as though she doesn't like him anymore!

It's this also normal??
Thanks for all your advice i really appreciate it I'm a new dog mom, I got my first two pups last year.

You have a lot of "cramming" to do before this litter is born! You need to get reliable, accurate books and read about what you are now facing. I would suggest you get that male neutered ASAP, as it seems it is very difficult for most people that are not breeders, to recognize when a female is in heat, or when a male is sexually active. If you are not experienced and knowledgable, you can not keep two intact dogs in the same area without accidental breedings resulting. This is information for the near future...

Back to your current situation. Start reading everything you can get your hands on about whelping a litter of puppies. Get your vet committed to being lined up for help if needed, in the middle of the night. You will need to have cash or a credit card.....I would suggest with a credit line of at least $5000.00, which will get you through an emergency c-section at an emergency clinic, along with care for the litter afterwards......you need to be buying your supplies....I would strongly advise you to get familiar with tube feeding new born puppies, so if you need to hand rear orphaned babies or even supplement the babies for whatever reason, you will be confident and capable in doing that, rather than allowing the babies to starve because they are not getting enough nourishment, or subjecting those newborns to possibly aspirating formula trying to drip or bottle feed them. You need to get your supplies for making up formula, in case you need it you will have it and not be running around town in the middle of the night, buying what you need.

You need to get your xrays day 56-58 to check how many babies are in there...so you will know for sure, when momma has delivered her last puppy. You also need to measure head/pelvic ring ratio to see if she is going to have these babies without any problems related to size. You still have to be aware a baby can get crosswise and stop the entire delivery, so you need to know if you are looking at a problem, or if all is progressing normally.

See if your vet has a Yorkie breeder as a client, that could serve as a mentor for you to get you through a whelping. Good luck with your whelping....keep us posted on your litter....

Yes, it is perfectly normal for the pregnant female to not want to be around other dogs. You need to make sure you have a private place where she can have her pups where no other dogs can get to her and her pups. She will likely become a little aggressive toward any dogs that are around her when she is whelping and after she has her pups. Once her pups are weaned she will get back to being her old self.

You have received some great advice from others.

Keep in mind that any time a female comes in heat her personality will change, whether they are bred or not. This change lasts for about two to three months then they get back to normal until their next heat cycle.

Thanks everyone for all the help. I greatly appreciate it honestly! I've been keeping her and the dad separate since I've made the original post and she likes it better that way. She been a lot more active with him gone, I think she doesn't like her baby daddy lol. But seriously I've set up an account with 2000$ in it incase of a delivery emergency, and I'm also going to get those books suggested to me.

The only other concerns I have is how long will i have to care for the litter Before i can give them away?
Will she have some sort of separation anxiety?
when should I allow the father around the pups?

Again thank you all for all of the advice and support!

It sounds like you are trying to be prepared.

I would not recommend that you give the pups away. I would think that a $50 or $100 adoption fee would be fine. Perhaps others on here could advise you better on that.

Most people on here would recommend keeping the pups until they are 12 weeks old but that is not always possible. I recommend that you keep them until they are at least 9 or 10 weeks old and fully weaned. Some states don't allow pups to be sold before they are 8 weeks.

As for letting the male around them, I can't when it would be okay because I don't know your male's personality. I know that I do not allow any males around my pups until they are at least 12 weeks old or older. It really depends on how your male reacts to them. Most males don't tolerate young pups that well and I have even heard of some males attacking and killing young pups.

I would not sell them until they are 12 weeks because they will still be learning from there mom. You should try to make sure that they are going to homes that will have them fixed and not try to breed them. I would also use this time to get your male fixed.

Puppies!!!!!!

Hey everyone i just wanted to let you all know that Bella had a very successful birth with no complication and she didn't need any help!!!! My baby was so amazing she delivered 5pups four of which are black and brown like mommy and one that is white with black spots. She started pacing the bedroom around 3am February 28, and then she started pushing at 6am. It only took her 2 and 1/2 hours to deliver all five. I am a very proud Yorkie mom!!!! She cleaned them and she's been feeding them and she hasn't left there side, she's being a great mommy!!

She did a wonderful job - they're gorgeous! I wish I lived closer to you. I could add to my Yorkie collection. lol ;)

Beautiful momma and babies, I would be anxious to see how the white and black one turns out. Proud little momma. Thanks for the picture.

bjh 03-04-2015 07:02 AM

I am glad everything went well. The mom looks more like a full yorkie than an yorkie poo, just judging from her coat. Are you going to have the pups tails docked? If so you better get it done real soon before the pups get much older.

DBlain 03-04-2015 09:58 AM

glad things went well, PLEASE don't get their tails docked they are a mix and will not be shown so there should be no need for that. Lola is a yorkie mix and has the most amazing tail, it's one of her best features. Most of the threads on Yorkie Talk indicate the tide has changed and it seems like more people prefer tails than don't

teasell 03-04-2015 05:48 PM

Oh Wow, Mommy looks happy and pups are beautiful. I would love to see all of them as they grow.

Hello BellaMafia & all Yorkie & Dog Lovers - I am new to Yorkie Talk and a little bit on the shy side. I had read parts of Yorkie Talk before joining as a member to try and find out as much good info as I could when I got my little Tootsie, so that I could care for her & I have learned so much from all of you. When I read your story BellaMafia I could not help but compare it somewhat to my situation. Tootsie will be 2 years old in May. Our Vet had recommended that we wait till she was 2 before breeding her. Not because of health issues but because she would be a better mom by waiting till she was more mature. The Vet told us that Tootsie had good hips and that he did not see any problems with breeding her. When her third heat came we introduced her to an adorable 5 yr. old little guy by the name of Ziggy. They both are approx. 7 lbs. and are about the same size over all. It has been a little over a week (March 13) since they met. We had tried a week earlier and little Toots liked him enough in a playful way but she was defiantly not ready at that time. The second time 3/13/15 she was much more receptive and they Hooked Up 5 times during that day. Neither of them had done this before so it was a little interesting but of course nature helped them along and I believe they were both very Happy Pups when the day was done!! Still with all this planning I feel very unsure and worry and worry that we have done the right thing and most importantly that everything goes well. Your story has filled me with hope and I Thank You so much for that!! If any of you Yorkie & Dog Lovers have any suggestion on what I should be feeding/diet for Toots and any other information that will help Tootsie & I it would be very very welcomed. I do not even know for sure if Toots is pregnant, how do I tell that, what is the earliest that I could tell? If I have counted the days correctly I am thinking that May 18th could be the 65th day. I know that like all pregnancies it is just a reference point, but does this sound about right? Her 3rd heat cycle started March 3/4 and she hooked March 13 (ten days in). I plan to take Toots to the Vet for another check up and to secure plans for any difficulties that may arise. This is my first time with a breeding process and Tootsie is the love of my life. I have three grown children two daughters and one son. I always say that if I would have had Tootsie first I most likely would not have had any children (she never talks back & she does not ask for money LOL). BellaMafia, I pray that my story ends with a blessing as wonderful as yours. Not so much as 5 pups (although they would be welcomed) but that all of them are OK and my little Toots too. Our family & Ziggy's plan on keeping the pups, we all are looking for more sweet Yorkies to add to our families. Again thank you so much Yorkie Talk, for all the support & guidance that you provide to all Dog Lovers, you are a true blessing to all of us un-knowers. Love You & Love My Tootsie.
