Repeat question on correct board - if "tie" took?

Hi Everyone! I am doind some research online and found your lovely forum! People seem so nice and friendly and not even only limited to yorkies (which I love!).

My name is Vivian and I have two long-coat chihuahuas. My male, Bailey, is neutered because he is too big to breed and he has one luxating patella.

My question is regarding my female, Chloe. She is being bred once, both parties want to keep the puppies.

Being her first time, I just am having a hard time knowing if the "tie" took and not finding enough information online.

1/5 - she was bred for the first time. They tied for a 1-2 min. a few times. the few times it seemed to last longer, she would move away and they would seperate (although a bit painful on the male).

1/7 - they tied a couple of times for a few minutes. Then they tied for about 7-8 minutes and the owner of the male was holding the male to help support him, but noticed after a while that the male had slid out when a bunch of fluid fell onto his pants. Do you think this was successful?

1/8 - they tied for about 30 minutes. after a few minutes initially, Chloe was crying and trying to kepp move away but we took turns holding them together, and soothing her with kisses, words, and rubbing. I am sure this one was successful. They seperated painlessly.

My question for experienced breeders - do you think the first 2 days were successful to count? I have been told by one breeder and the vet that if there are only 1-2 pups, they usually get big in the belly and require C-section to birth (and also 1st time moms may reject the pups if they are C-sectioned. At the same time, I don't want to span the # of days they bred from 1/5 to 1/11. That will be a week in difference IF the 5th did count.
Please advise as the owner of the male is available if I need to take her to him again this week. which i feel I would need to do tonight or tomorrow at latest. Thanks for anyones advice in advance!

I am not experienced in chihuahuas and all breeds have thier specific breeding quirks. Than being said, ties are ties if you had 3 successful ties then more than likely your female should be pregnant. I wouldnt think a 4th tie is needed. Sperm lasts up to 72 hours and the "wet stuff" you mentioned is just merely the left overs:)

I would count the 5th as the first breeding..perhaps it was not a good one, but there could be enough semen to impregnant her. You had an excellent 8th breeding. I would not breed her again.
Xray at 55 or so days and you can see what ou are dealing with in the way of number and size. Best wishes

THANK YOU! A very big Thank you! Yes, I plan to schedule an Xray if it seems she is preggers from 2/26 to 3/1. Thank you again!

taking the 5th as your first tie date here is something for you to go by...

Wed 5 Jan 2005 First day of mating.
48 hours after the first mating the bitch should be mated again. Subsequent matings occurring over a period of time enhance the chances of fertilaziton taking place.
The spermatozoa migrate up through the cervix.

Thu 6 Jan 2005 Sperm travel searching for a mature ripened eggs.

Thu 6 Jan 2005 -
Fri 7 Jan 2005 Spermatozoa reach the eggs in the oviducts.

Fri 7 Jan 2005 -
Sat 8 Jan 2005 Fertilisation occurs in the oviducts which lead from the ovaries to the uterus.

Sat 8 Jan 2005 -
Mon 10 Jan 2005 Fertilised eggs migrate down the oviducts and into the uterine horns.
The migration continue to enable even spacing of the embryos.
During this migration the eggs will grow into a blastocystes.

Sun 16 Jan 2005 -
Tue 18 Jan 2005 The blastocystes implant in the wall of the uterus.

Sun 16 Jan 2005 -
Sun 30 Jan 2005 The blastocystes will grow into an embryos.
During the next two weeks the important organs will develop.

Wed 19 Jan 2005 -
Wed 26 Jan 2005 Dams nipples begin to pink enlarge.
The fur on the dams belly and around the nipples may become thinner.

Tue 25 Jan 2005 -
Tue 1 Feb 2005 Morning sickness might occur due to hormonal changes or stretching and distension of the uterus. Dam may appear a bit apathetic. She may be off her feed for a while and vomit from time to time.
Feeding the dam several meals spaced throughout the day might help.
Your veterinarian may want to prescribe a drug to relax the uterus.

Sun 30 Jan 2005 -
Thu 3 Feb 2005 An experienced person (a breeder or a veterinarian) can tell by careful palpation whether the dam is pregnant.
It's now the best time to do this because the embryos are walnut-sized now and easy to count.

Wed 2 Feb 2005 Start to increase the dams food ration.
Don't overfeed, excessive weight gain should be avoided.
The foetuses are now and are fully developed miniature dogs.

Tue 8 Feb 2005 The Dams abdomen starts to get larger.

Fri 18 Feb 2005 It's very easy now to feel the puppies, counting them might be a bit more difficult.

Mon 21 Feb 2005 -
Tue 1 Mar 2005 Dam begins to spend a lot more time in self-grooming.
Her breasts become even more swollen.
She may become a bit restlessness and begin to search for a suitable place to have her puppies.

Wed 23 Feb 2005 The dam might lose her appetite during this period. Her abdomen can be crowded with puppies.
It is better to feed several smaller meals spaced throughout the day.
You can easily detect abdominal movement now.

Wed 23 Feb 2005 -
Thu 10 Mar 2005 Nipples and vulva should be gently cleaned with warm water, you might want to trim the hairs surrounding the nipples, to allow easier access for the puppies to suck.

Sat 5 Mar 2005 -
Tue 8 Mar 2005 Milky fluid may be expressed from the nipples.

Sun 6 Mar 2005 You might want to start taking the dams rectal temperature each morning and evening.

Wed 9 Mar 2005 Twelve to 24 hours before she is due to deliver, the dams rectal temperature may drop from 101 to 98 degrees.
Clear discharge from the vulva might occur.

Thu 10 Mar 2005 Expected date of whelp. Of course this is just an average. Whelping may take place from the 59th to the 65th day. Puppies born before the 58th day will probably be too young to survive.
