Need confirmation. on 3wks pups solid food Need some advice re: when to feed new pups (3wks) Hi,.I've. Had puppies for years and have never sought advice on first solids.Still learning. Past have fed my pups rice cereal mix with water, graduating slowly to softened good puppy food.Am I in the ballpark or need a possible change. Thanks, Laurie |
My newborns are started on RC puppy mousse, with a little warm formula to slush it up. |
I have always started mine on a high quality puppy food (no corn, no wheat, no soy, no byproducts). I put it in a food processor and turn it into a powder so it can be easily mix with warm water without having to wait for it to soften and dealing with the hotspots created using a microwave. The younger the puppy the more liquid and then I gradually add less and less water. I don't wean that early and let my moms nurse much later than most since I keep them until 11 or 12 weeks. After they are eating well, I also begin to leave out the same puppy food in dry kibble form and they naturally just move on to it. I believe keeping the same food throughout makes the transistion go smoothly and I don't have to deal with any digestive issues or pickiness. |
Good advice. Your style of grinding up the food dry before water added sounds better/faster/easier, than mine of soaking the food forever and still finding chunks after the blender. THANKS!!! :) |
