Silent heat I purchased the parti chocolate 5 months ago and was waiting for her heat cycle....apparently she had a silent one and yes babies due anytime....I have never had this happen and was wondering any thought on this subject. I was in the process of re homing her because she is to aggressive with my females and was rubbing her belly and they are moving all over....was shocked....so glad I caught this before she was leaving tomorrow!!! |
Hi and welcome to YT. Sorry I have no experience with heats. I was a little confused about what advice you were looking for is it in regards to the "silent heat" or do you need help regarding steps to prepare for a whelp with a pregnant Yorkie. Glad you caught the surprise before ahe was re homed. |
Well, glad you noticed before she whelped them. I had a female that I thought never went into heat and one night she jumped up onto our bed with a dead puppy hanging off of her, I had no clue she was pregnant, very sad situation. She went on to have 2 more pups, but sadly one was stillborn. The other one survived, he is 3 yrs. old now, and much loved by us! The father was the only male in the house, so I didn't have to wonder about that. Even though I had originally bought her for breeding after this I had her fixed, I'm leaving breeding up to the folks that know what they are doing more than I did. You will have to watch her carefully for signs of labor since you probably don't know when she conceived. Good luck for a successful whelp and adorable healthy puppies! |
Although she had a silent heat, I guess you also missed the breedings that obviously took place. I am confused about this girls age.... ?? first heat cycle ?? so she is less than a year old?? Do you have any idea when she is due to whelp? Have you had ultrasound done to determine number of live puppies? Have you had xray done to determine if her pelvic ring will allow these babies to pass through? Do you know from xrays how many puppies she is carrying so you will know how many puppies / placentas to make sure are delivered? Maybe you can isolate her so you can watch her more closely....you dont want her to go off in some hidden place and have puppies alone and unattended. Do you know who the sire is? If you have more than one intact male running loose with your females, you will have to have the litter DNA'd, along with the parents, if you register them. I have a female that has silent heats, so I watch her whenever she is with any other females, so she wont fight as she comes into heat, and of course, I never run intact males and intact females together. When I breed the female with the silent cycles, I track her hormone levels and go by those results to tell me when she is ready to be bred. It is an expensive and labor intensive effort, but it keeps my female"honest" and I know when she gets bred, when she and mate tie, when she is pregnant and when she is due, and how many are expected! |
