Prego momma advice! Hello All, My Nova is due any time now, today marks day number 60! Last Saturday her temp dropped to 98.6, but has been up and down since then. It seems to be lower at night and as high as 100.2 during the day. She still wants food and chases the cat, for short periods of time. She is not whelping at all. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :) |
Hi and welcome to YT. I have no information to help but I wanted to say best wishes and prayers for momma and her puppies. |
She should have them soon. Most females whelp between 61 and 63 days but it can vary. The temperature ups and downs are not that unusual. Sometime when they have not eaten the temperature will run on the low side. Good luck with the whelping. I hope everything goes well. |
We are at 62 days and still no puppies. I'm just freaking out that there could be something wrong. I can still feel puppies moving, ahe has no bad smell the the discharge, she is still eating, and doesn't seem like she is in pain or anything like that. |
If this is her first litter, she can be early or she could be late....not at all uncommon for them to whelp as much as a week later than expected....I dont ever let any of my females go over a week, I have them sectioned....no reason not to....the babies are fully developed and ready to be born, and the longer they "reside" inside momma, the larger they are getting, which could pose birthing issues! I like to be ahead of problems....crisis prevention rather than crisis management. How many puppies is she carrying? Have you had her xrayed? Have you made sure the babies will fit through the pelvic ring? |
Yes this is her first litter. The vet said ahe would have no problems delivering puppies, as she is a large yorkie. I did not do the xray, the vet said that would only be good if i wanted to know how many puppies ahe was having. I figured i would save the money, just incase there were complications. But i am sure that i have felt 3 or 4 puppies. Her temp has been at 98.3 since this morning, ao i am hoping that this is a sign that labor is soon. I will post after she has them! |

Well I spoke with another vet and they suggested that I just wait for her. They said to give her a few more days and if she still has not went into labor then bring her into the office. according to the NEW vet some dogs just don't go by time tables :) So I am still eagerly awaiting puppies! She started having lose stools last night, but the temp is still all over the pace (still staying under 100 though). So we will see :) |
Just checking...:hands: :aimeeyork |
Please keep us posted!! Hope everything goes well.:) |
Anyone else having problems loading pictures? I wanted to load up some before pregnancy pictures and some of her nice and large, before the puppies are born. I keep getting the same message that the upload failed or page can not be displayed :( |
Do you even know how many puppies she is having? That is another reason to get xrays, so you will know when everyone has been delivered along with all the placentas.....that way you dont get into a critical issue with a retained dead puppy or a placenta. |
Well lots of heavy panting and nesting this morning, i believe she lost the mucus plug around 7, and then ate it. We are just setting around and cuddling this morning! |
I would let her eat only a couple of the placentas......eating all of the placentas can cause her some nausea or diarrhea. I always cut my own cords......brand new mommas will often chew the cord off toooo short....they can easily accidentally pull on the cord too much, cause an umbilical hernia or even disembowel the baby. |
I wish you luck with the whelp, and do hope that you have your vet on speed dial............. |
