feeding pregnant yorkie my yorkie is due to have her babies in 2 weeks. i was told to feed her puppy food the intire time she is pregnant so i did, but yesterday i was told that was a mistake because that will make the puppies to big to deliver. this person told me i should have fed her puppy food the last 2 weeks of pregnancy. now i'm worried about my dog delivering her babies. did i make a mistake? when do i start feeding the mother puppy food? |
Hi, I personally feed my mommies puppy food all through their pregnancy unless they are on the heavier side pre-pregnancy. Then I feed them puppy food and extra calcium the last two weeks. :animal36 |

I feed their regular food until the last 3 weeks. And keep them on puppy food until their babies are weaned. I don't give calcium supps anymore.(used to, but discussed it with someone on here and opted to take their advice) I do give some after whelp but not before. Usually like yogurt, cottage cheese or a 1/2 tums. You can give a little yorgurt or cottage cheese as a treat in small portions while they're preggo. I usually give one of those two and chicken meat atleast every other day anyway (not the tums) ( The main thing is that you should have her on a quality food which I'm sure you do, just wanted to mention) Best wishes, |
feeding If the pups are too big for mom to pass naturally, it will not be because you fed puppy food. I have done it for over 30 yrs. Good Luck |
