Biewer pup in litter of yorkies
 
Hi there. I am looking for info on genes etc on how a pure female yorkie and pure male yorkie have a litter and has 3 pups. 2 pups are your typical black/tan and one pup is tri-colored like a Biewer or Parti….not sure what the difference is on a viewer and parti exactly. Did either the mom or dad or both carry the "biewer" gene from way back? Thanks!

I just read a thread of someone who has a yorkie breeding with a yorkie that throws out a near all white pup! I guess it is in the genes? On that thread the pup was almost all white with a teeny bit of black and they called it a Parti. The pup I am interested in is white and black with brown/tan eyebrows, side of lower head, and under tail. Is that a Parti or a Biewer or Tri-Colored?

Parti-colored Yorkies are a genetic anomaly, some believe it is acceptable ("rare and beautiful"), while others do not. Biewer and Parti are not the same breed. If the dog came from Yorkies, it is a Parti Yorkie.

Thanks so much! Is the dog in your profile pic a parti? She looks exactly the same as the girl I'm getting. Markings of color placement are totally the same! Adorable!

Thank you so much! The pup in your profile picture…is that a Parti? It has the exact same markings of colour and placement of the girl I am getting.

Nope, he's a Biewer. A Parti can still be high white, but they come from Yorkie parents. Biewers are strictly Biewer to Biewer. Then, you can have splitters (half Biewer, half Yorkie), but most breeders frown upon breeding Yorkie to Biewer.

If both parents are Yorkshire Terriers then the pup you are looking at is a Parti, and not a Biewer. They do look similar, but are different breeds. I think both are beautiful, and many members on YT have Partis and Biewers.

She's a cutie...she does remind me of my Sheldon. If you're not breeding or showing, I see nothing wrong with having a preference of look. If you like the Parti look, go for it. I went with Biewer just because I read that they tend to be a bit more mellow (not sure how much truth there is in that statement) than a Yorkie.

The YTCA needs to focus more attention on correct structure and sound health. They waste a lot of time and resources on color and tail length, and I recently had the oppurtunity to tell them so.:thumbdown
I'm not a Parti breeder, but I don't freak out when someone says they like this unusual coloration. I have an acquaintance who is very proud of her brown Yorkie as well...:)

Both mom and dad are most likely carriers of the Parti gene. Unless I'm missing something obvious, the above punnet square shows this. Your little girl looks adorable.

It didn't show up right,but if you write it out, you will come up with what I did.

I can appreciate that bolded part bc some breeders really get up in arms over this, and it usually does no one any good doing so. Glad you have a calm mind in dealing with it as it keeps any conversation / discussion open and calm :).

Oh yes! She is not ready to join our family yet. She is just 5 weeks old now. I am not a person who shows dogs or anything. I have a female yorkie who I love to pieces. She is 7 years old now. When I saw this little girl in the litter I just couldn't keep my eyes off her. She is so sweet!

Clearly from reading the posts there could be some touchy convos about parti pups. I can respect that as I'm sure most of you are very well informed and have deep opinions. I just wanted an addition to my family and she stole my heart.
