Neutered and still 'interested' My last question. Is it possible for a male that is neutered to inpregnate a female if they tie soon after he was neutered? How long after he is neutered are the 'swimmiers' no longer effective? I belong to another group and this question was posed. The group is very slow, so I thought I'd see if you guys have some insight I can pass along. I would assume the once neutered there is no more potentcy. Any thoughts?? |

Even if there were any little men still swimming anywhere, sperm cells don't have that long of a life span. They lack the organelles neccessary to produce more energy, unlike egg cells. I would think that they would die long before the soreness wore off enough for him to want to mount. |
I think someone (on that other board) may be confusing testosterone with sperm. It is true that testosterone remains in the neutered male dog for a while after neutering, but gradually leaves the body when it is not replenished through the sex organs. That doesn't mean they aren't still interested though, because Buddha humps his Sheila every day. LOL. |

Now, I've heard of a neutered male that will still try to mate and even penetrate a female but with nothing to produce the swimmers, pregnancy can't take place. |
I had a German Shepard ( Saint) years ago that went into heat . the neighbors German Shepard mix came over and I know they tied once. I mentioned it to my neighbor and she said her dog was neutered...time went by and we all pretty much forgot about it. One morning I got up and saint had delivered one pup. What a shock! My neighbor had rescued her dog from our Haven Humane so it was neutered before she took him home. ( and she'd had him for a while).. I'm positive no other dogs had gotten into our yard... He was our little mystery baby. :) |

males A actaully knew a Maltese breeder who bought an adult male..used him 3 times with 3 different females and have no pups. I was visiting her one day and she was telling me about this lovely male and what ashame about no pups...I picked him up and had a look...he had no testicules. He went to the vet and guess what..he had NO testicules...the Maltese, not the vet. I never could figure out how she could have missed two important things like that..but he was a great stud, easy to breed, just no pups. LOL |
