Episiotomy? Has anyone had to do an episiotomy on a bitch that had some trouble getting a puppy out? If so, please explain. I never have. **These are not to be taken as instructions to DIY (do it yourself). Make sure to consult your vet before doing anything like this!! |
Never had and never heard of someone having it done till the other day when they posted it here. |

Oh..I have talked to breeders that have done them themselves. Their vet actually taught them :eek: I just wondered how many veteran breeders do this if necessary. |
Not me...if it gets to that point, my vet will come to the house...of course, I'm not a "vetran breeder" either. :rolleyes: No offense take, I understand what you mean...just my take on it. :) |

NO way... I am a veteran breeder and have never done it or had a vet do it either...I get goose bumps even thinking about it..AND there is no way I would allow it without novacaine. |

The believe the vet did teach stitching too. I was naucious thinking about it. But if it's a matter of life or death... I spent 2 yrs talking to breeders and researching and I had every horror story in the book told to me. If it ever gets to the point where I have to do those types of procedures on my bitches I will QUIT breeding. That is not something I can do. Pat, the breeder that told me about this was old school too. Very hands on. I was amazed to hear the how different each breeder ran their program. I am sure I'm the 'cheese that stands alone' the way I run mine..lolol.. |

Who's life or death? If I have to pick between a dead pup and cutting my dam..then the pup is going to Yorkie heaven! I have had pups get majorly stuck and had to rush to the vet..the mothers life as a rule is not in danger because a pup is stuck..there is usually plenty of time to get to the vet. Most often labor stops and the stuck pup may die ...but no way am I cutting into the vulva of my bitch to remove a puppy. I am having a hard time sitting on this chair thinking about all this...LOL |
