puppies again. We recieved a pregnant poodle about a month ago, an owner surrender. Mom did great and pups are now 2 weeks old.Almost tripled weight. 2of 4 eyes now open. Last week we ent to the shelter to pull dogs for the rescue and pick up 4 doxies. I fell.in love with a little terrier mix. Tried to take her but the card said she had a medical hold. They confirmed that she was pregnant. The policy at this shelter(no the employees idea) is to euthanize pregnant females unless a rescue will foster. They brought her to me the next day. We had n appointment for xrays because they thought she had 2-3 weeks left. I wrnt to bed monday morning around 1 am. My dane , Sage, woke me up.around 5 going after something in the closet. I checked and say my daughters bengal cat in the welping box so I just put Sage outside.Had a few appointments and got back aroud 11am. Wad greeted by all the dogs including my new foster. Heard a sound in the closet and there were 3 beautiful puppies in the box, already dry. I think the cat was protecting them. He loves kittens and always cleans when we have to bottle feed kittens. So now I have 4 poodle pups and 3 adorable terrier mix puppies. The female doxie I have is also due next week. Lot of work and worry but fun. And yes everyone will be spayed and we do spay if its early enough. I have learned to trust myself. I thought she was due earlier since her labia was qite swollen and nipples were full , but unable to express milk. I know I was very lucky that it was a good delivery. The puppies are small3.3-4.5 ounces which helped since we haven't a clue who dad is. |
aren't you one hell of a lady, all these puppies and yet more to come. God bless you for saving these poor neglected babies AND their babies. There is a special place in heaven for ppl like you. you are my HERO. please keep us posted on the progress of this little brood you have. |
I looked to see what state you were in because I was shocked that a shelter was put down a pregnant mom. Disgraceful!!! Was surprised to see Ca since I live here too. Thank you so much for having a heart for these little souls. |
You are an angel! I can't imagine all those puppies. |
Not an angel. just a little, or maybe a little crazy. Ca requires all animals adopted from shelters or rescues to be altered. The only option is to find foster homes because the shelter can't adopt out these moms and to allow them to be born in a shelter is a death sentence to these babies. We won't even take puppies that have been.in.the general population. If we have a foster home that gets parvo or distemper we can no longer place puppies in that home. It took a long time to accept that we couldn't risk bringing home diseases to our personal dogs and contaminating our home. It still hurts to see all those puppies left behind. A few weeks ago one of our members adult daughtetr wanted a pit mix puppy. Her mother found an adorable baby while we were there. So far she's spent over $1000 on the puppy. Pneumonia initially but the vet thinks its distemper. I don't discourage afopting from shelters but be aware of the risks. I have a lot of backup if I need to bottle feed although I've told people they will learn to tube feed. We've been very lucky and pulling them from the shelters before birth at least gives them a chance. If you're anywhere near Riverside/ Mo Valley drop me a note. I'll teach you to tube feed . |
