Revolution- on 8 1/2 weeks old So the vet gave me "Revolution" heartworm and flea preventative to put on Athena in a couple of days. She is 8 1/2 weeks old and weighs 3.3 pounds. What say you? Yes or no?:thumbdown I am on the fence as to if I want to give it to her. |

It is the dead of winter, baby is not fully vaccinated and shouldnt be exposed to public crowds and street dogs....I would hope chances of this pup being exposed to ticks and mosquitoes (heartworms) is almost nil.....I personally would not put it on such a young baby.....but I do not have the package insert/directions on the Revolution that I use on my puppies....but I dont start it until they are minimum 12 weeks old....seems I DO remember the information on the package for the puppies Revolution does say it is safe for 8 week old puppies. |

Excellent! So, if you choose to, you could safely wait for baby to hit 12 weeks old and no harm would come to your baby! |
Most vets I know don't test for heartworm in pups up to 6 months old before beginning prevention. The reason being that any possible microfilae would not have yet matured and would be killed off upon beginning prevention at that time. Personally I would wait. IMO it's enough that a young pup still has vaccinations to go through without adding pesticides to its immature system. |

I think im going to wait. |
Yes, a blood test. No harm in waiting a bit. My vet recommended this for my liver conflicted dog, and she's had no problems so far with it. |
I only use the Revolution on my 3 in the months that fleas and Mosquitos are prevalent. |
