Help...they are doing everything right except sticking!!?? What am I doing wrong? They are both the same weight even look like twins but of course from totally different locations & litters but he keeps missing her. She's 3 now & he's 2 yrs old...it's his first time & her first litter & she's never acted or been this swollen ever so she's ready. She keeps backing up into him & constantly wants it but I think it's bc he keeps missing? Is it possible he may have been inside her a one point & not stick? We've been trying to help guide them and we thought they were stuck for about 30 seconds if even that & they let go & my husband picked her up & she quirt a little substance and blood...could this mean they tied? We've had them together for 3 days now & he's just not hitting the spot...I don't want to miss this chance since she's already 3 & they are perfect for each other their personalities & temperament....even markings & coat are identical! I've bred another in the past many years ago but I didn't need to assist in anything of that, they were naturals. I think he's missing bc he's not getting close enough and keeps getting it on her sides and under her? Suggestions? Help...I think 3 days should of been enough just haven't had a stick. |
My dog Bentley did the same thing. Same size age and all I had to inseminate my female I did it myself. Look up video on YouTube and buy the supply's at a local farmacy good luck. Btw she is pregnant confirmed today, make sure you use gloves and keep sterile. Or have your vet do it... |

Do you mean a tie? I mean, if you're going to breed, you should probably know the correct terminology. Besides being perfect for each other, what other testing have you done? Why are you breeding this specific pair? In all honesty, the male needs to be smaller than the female. And you need to know what size dogs are behind him in his lines. What are you going to do if she gets pregnant with large pups? Do you have money set aside for an emergency c-section if she should need one? Where's your mentor? Why isnt she helping your male tie with the female? I hope you're mentally and financially ready for everything a pregnancy and whelping entails. |
Lol a stick. Well some yorkies or small breeds don't just tie on there own might need assistance. Especially if she is taller in the back. If you have done your research and genetic testing, have a mentor, and are bettering the breed you could always inseminate. My long time friend that was my mentor she has some pairs of yorkies that just don't tie on there own. So she inseminates them. Keep in mind you are doing this for the bettering of the breed and not to make money. Also keep in mind a possible c section. When females have csections they tend to not accept the babies and you will be feeding around the clock. If that is your case. Good luck. |

I'm sorry I called it a "stick" and not a "tie" because to me, the word "tie" is in reference to a knot or twist of a sort & that's not what happens...so I'm sorry if my reference of calling it a "sticking" offended you, I call it that because the male swells up inside the female and they do get stuck, not twisted. I wasn't aware they're was a rule book to certain "terminology". I'm not new to the breed, I've had Yorkies for 8 years now & I have had my female for 3 years & if I could I would clone her, she has Champion bloodline, beautiful markings & came with a 3 yr health guarantee & now she's just over 3 years old, never been sick, never even had any health issues, not even with her teeth. She started to show all of the signs that she was ready to be a mother, so I had the stud who also weighed 5-6 lbs on stand by as I spoke to several people and went through plenty who just wanted to stud out for the money and knew nothing about the breed, half of them didn't even look full bred. I've searched for the right male for a while now & where I live it's not easy to find good litters, people breed for the wrong reasons around here. With my experience the first time I didn't make a single penny from it, in fact it cost me money so I know this is an investment. I'm breeding these two because they have many of the same traits & temperaments and I hope they will have puppies who turn out exactly the way they are. I've been told the male needs to be smaller as well and have also been told that's not true by so many different people some apparently well educated breeders and who've done it for years and yet some of them still call them teacups. Even vets have told me as long as they are between 4-7 lbs breeding them no matter who's bigger or smaller won't make a difference because it all goes back several litters prior as well. Some apparent "well educated" breeders call some teacups so I've had a few spats with them because of that. Unless there is some certification course or degree I need...I think I'm knowable enough to breed mine. Isn't that what this specific section of the forum is for...to ask questions and/or share stories??? I'm sorry if using the term "sticking" made you assume I don't know what I'm getting into or that I may not have the knowledge or funds for breeding, when I do & I know the risks. My mentor lives an hour away so it wasn't easy to get help from her because of her distance and she had never experienced this situation before either. The breeder who the male came from also has a great line of genes as she has had show dogs, I am not breeding to show even though I know my female is very capable of being a show dog. I just don't care for the snooty personalities of some of the people who do, at least the ones that I've personally met or spoken too and we don't really have dog shows in my area where I live either. I'm breeding mine because I want more with their personalities, just like the males as well are very much alike. My husband & I are disabled, he's a USMC Disabled Veteran & our Layla has helped both of us with our anxieties & has alerted us of certain health issues which we plan to certify her as a therapy dog some day & hope that her litter of pups, if she turns out pregnant will all have the same traits to be therapy dogs as well some day for people like us, not just to be a pretty picture which is already a given. For all I know we may not even sell any of the pups. We did have two successful "tie's" so hopefully we will have a litter in a couple of months. Thanks for your input and opinions. Have a great day! |
Update: She's pregnant with at least 3 baby's!!! We had a sonogram done today and we saw 3 pups active and moving! We have about 20 more days to go or so...I'm excited and we're getting prepared she's going to be so spoiled, as if she isn't already! Lol :p |
I am sooo happy to read your lil boy "hit the mark" Congrats on the lil mommy, I fell your excite over the 3 pups. Please keep us posted on mommy and her lil babies. Sounds like you have a match from heaven. God bless. |
Praying for an easy whelp and healthy Mom and puppies. |
Thank you! She about 40 days in now, literally this week so much has changed and her belly has grown from almost not being able to tell to...wow, yes she's pregnant! lol She doesn't seem to be as uncomfortable as she was a few days ago maybe she was having some pain or discomfort bc the one on top was sideways and moving like crazy. Hopefully the pup has turned by now because she seems to be feeling better. Her belly has gotten a lot bigger just over the last couple of days. She's even laying on her side now like she's resting her belly it's too cute. She wasn't allowing us to lay her belly up the other day which is definitely unlike her but now it's like she's asks for us to rub her belly for her to sleep. Those little rascals are moving like crazy in there too, I forgot what going through this was like. I can't wait I'm hoping she has them in 2 weeks on the weekend. We've already rearranged my bedroom and her welping area is already set up next to my bedside. Has anyone ever had a pup deliver earlier then expected??? I seem to hear more on here of having them later lately like during days 62-64. I just have a feeling she could have them sooner like days 38 or so... |

Hopefully, you will get an xray on day 56-58 to determine if she is going to be able to have these babies , by measuring head / pelvic ring ratio. Hopefully, you realize day 62-64 is normal, NOT late. Hopefully you are aware that the mortality rate for puppies born premature, before day 56, is about 90%....if you have fetusus delivered at day 38, they have NO chance of survival. Good luck with your whelp....praying for your momma and her babies. |
