Tail docking Since these puppies aren't going to be shown, I feel tail docking is kind of pointless, however I know it is breed standard. AKC says medium length, carried slightly higher than the line of the back. Allie and Noah both have very little tail, maybe an inch. Westley's is slightly longer. My question is how long do you leave your puppies 'nub' when docking? We are going to the vet Monday to have this and dew claw removal done, and will need to be able to tell the vet what I want specifically. Of course google brought up a million things, and I trust the breeders here more than anything. Thanks in advance. |
I have my vet cut between 3/16 to 1/4 inch below the tip of the brown on the underside of the tail. |

The standard calls for medium length. I like to dock my puppies tails just past the black color where the brown meets the black on the underside of the tail. I don't like them to be to short. |
If you want a medium dock, you should dock no shorter than 1/4in past the tan on the underside of the tail. You'll see the tail start to narrow a bit in this location. Docking where tan meets black will be too short. |

I sent you an email the other day.... I didn't hear back from you, but just wanted to let you know. No need to respond to it, as the crisis has been averted for now. You are in Dallas, so I thought of you being close to me and thought you might be able to help. :) |
