Are all puppies born with dew claws? I have a nine month old female who had her dew claws removed before she became a part of our family. I am now considering adding a little boy to our family and found one I really like. However, when I asked if the dew claws had been removed, the breeder said no. I asked in another email why not and she said that he didn't have any and that not all yorkies do. Just checking to see if this is normal. Thanks for any input! Amber :animal36 |
According to this Wikipedia article dogs are always born with front dewclaws and occasionally rear dewclaws .. Dewclaw - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
They are all born with front dewclaws. Most US breeders remove them when they dock tails but removing dewclaws is optional according to the standard. I purchased a show puppy from Canada that still has her front dewclaws (tail is docked). |
