Is Anyone Familiar with Barkin' Barnyard Kennels? We've been looking around Barkin' Barnyard Kennels' website, and I am beginning to think of it as a puppymill. We've been really concerned about North Dakota puppymills ever since the Wheatland incident. Does anyone know if they are a puppymill? With so many breeds of dogs and APRI and ACA registration, We're afraid they could be. |
kinda looks like one but I am not a expert |
Thanks. I'm still not sure. Anyone else have any ideas? |
By looking at the site, they are not good. Did you see all of the different breeds and mix's they sell??? I was looking at the Yorkies and I myself don't like the looks of them. For myself I would never buy from them. |

Yes, we did notice. That is why we were worried about purchasing from them. :) Thanks for the information. |
Oh my it looks like she mixed every toy breed there is, even a dachshund and a yorkie. I would imagine they are breeding the life out of these females. Extremely questionable website. |
You guys are kidding me, right? Of course this is a puppymill!! When people breed to make a living - they are a mill. When people talk about their pups like they're inventory - they are a mill. When people breed the same dogs over and over again - they are a mill... etc. This place makes me sick! Not only are they making up breeds and calling them hybrids they're letting these pups go at 2 months old! They may look better than some but they are still a puppymill! :thumbdown PLEASE do not buy a puppy from here. :hands: |
Those poor puppies look terrified. They certainly don't look like good representations of their breeds, either. |
That site makes me sick...breeding mixed breeds when there's hundreds of homeless pets being euthanized every day bc they are not adopted.(:thumbdown |
have you looked at the reviews? When someone refuses to let you see their kennels thats when you walk away. |
I've been to their farm. I've been in their home. Although I was not inside the kennel area, I was impressed eith the whole area. So many people are such "do gooders" and on a witch hunt that anything and anyone is a target. I have bought a puppy from them and waiting on my second pup. Our pup was well socialized, clesn, great health and could ask for a better pup. She is now 2 1/2 years old and one of the smartist pups I've seen. I'm very thankful to them and their puppy farm! I didn't check the site but you could research the breeder referrals on akc website there's the ytca site as well....these are great ways to see who may be in your area. |

OMG. I just did a Google search of this place and the second link (can't post from my phone) was an article about this "breeder" being investigated for throwing a live, injured dog in the TRASH! This place is disgusting! |

PORTLAND, N.D. – The sheriff in Traill County said he has investigated allegations that breeders threw a live dog into the trash at a dog breeding operation near Portland and has forwarded his findings to the state’s attorney for possible prosecution. Traill County Sheriff Mike Crocker confirmed that his department has completed an investigation into allegations that a former employee at the Barkin’ Barnyard Kennels discovered that an injured dog had been thrown into the garbage last week. The kennel’s owners deny that a still-living dog had been thrown away. The employee, Kevin Nelson of Mayville, said he discovered the dog in the trash Friday after having asked the kennel’s owners, Jim and Kimberlee Scales, where the injured animal had been taken for care Wednesday. He claims he found the dog after it had clawed its way to the top of a trash pile. Nelson said the owners had assured him the dog was being cared for after it had been attacked by other dogs. He characterized the breeding operation as a puppy mill and estimated that it housed between 100 and 120 dogs at the facility, which he said was clean and in good condition. He said, however, that the dogs lacked socialization, and their high numbers and proximity to female dogs in heat had increased attacks and injuries among their population of late. Nelson said that when he discovered the dog in the trash, he asked the owners to let him take it to get veterinarian care, but they refused. “It was disgusting,” he said. “If you would have seen the look on the dog’s face.” Nelson said he was fired Friday after the confrontation over the dog after 5½ years working at the breeding operation. Crocker said he was unfamiliar with the overall size of the breeding operation, and he didn’t characterize it as a puppy mill. He said the kennels had been clean and that the dogs all had food and water. He would not say whether any other animals on the property had been found injured. Crocker said he also had sent the case on to the North Dakota state veterinarian for review. He said possible charges included improper disposal of an animal. Jim Scales said he was surprised to hear he was being considered for possible charges. He said the dog was not alive when it was disposed of, and that as far as he knew he hadn’t violated any regulations for disposing of dead animals. He said Nelson was a “disgruntled employee” who was unhappy to have been let go. He said he did not run a puppy mill, and that it had been Nelson’s job to socialize the dogs. “I don’t think this person is trying to be vigilant,” he said. “I think he’s trying to be vindictive. “Dogs fight,” Scales said.
