breeding 6 pd female with 10 pd male Hi I have a Female 3 year old 6 pound Yorkie named Baby, my husband and I would like to mate her with our neighbors Yorkie who is a 10 pound 3 year old male, is the 10 pound male to big to mate with our 6 pound Yorkie female? PLease give me your opinions, thanks! |
Yes, he's too big. W/out knowing their history, generations back, you're risking your female's life. Why isn't your baby spayed? It will greatly reduce any chances of mammary tumor & pyometra, which is life threatening. |
There is so much more to breeding Yorkies than putting 2 dogs together! But in answer to your question.. DO NOT BREED this pair. |
I'm not a breeder, but I can't imagine why anyone would consider breeding a 10# male. That is way above the standard. |
No it is not ok, and you are not a breeder and there is much to learn before even considering breeding as something you would want to be involved in. Read here and read some more. |
YES, way TOO BIG - please do not breed this pair. I'm really glad you had the sense and cared enough to ask about it - so thank you for being someone who cares enough :). I'll also mention that breeding is so incredibly complicated - we've seen tragic losses here at YT due to people breeding who know very little about it. It can very easily and quickly and unexpectedly be a life or death matter. PLEASE, take the time to read and learn and find a true breeding mentor before embarking on an endeavor that could result not in puppies, but in tragedy and loss. I don't mean to scare you....wait....yes I do - I hope you understand :). |
Not only should you not breed a 10# male with a 6# female, you should really learn a lot more about breeding in general before considering it at all. Here are a couple links from the YorkieTalk Library that will give you an overview of some of the other factors to consider. I sincerely hope that you will consider having your Baby spayed, and just let her be your adored little girl, and not put her through the risks of pregnancy. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...-answered.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...t-breeder.html |
I got my Niko at 6 days of life because the previous owners thought it was a good idea to breed their 4 pound little girl to their 6 pound male. The second puppy was stuck and by the time they did the c-section the puppy was dead. A day and ahalf later so was the mom. What do you think? Are you really prepared to lose your little girl? |
