not a yorkie but? I will be getting 8 shepard mix week old orphans to bottle feed, with the help, thank God, of a few friends. I've bottle fed yorkies and kittens but wonder if any one knows if the amount is the same, 1 cc per ounce is what we did with our yorkies. Hopefully the vet can help us find a foster mom of the 4 legged type soon. Any info appreciated. Thanks. |
I just bottle fed 7 mixed breed and I fed them until they were full and sleepy which is what they would do when nursing on their moms. The pups you are feeding would probably eat more than a small Yorkie or kitten. I measure to make sure that they eat more as they grow and also make sure that they gain weight. I would suggest pre-mixed formula and not powder. Not sure if you've ever used the powder or not but it was recently a pain in my rear because it kept stopping up the nipples on my bottles. I used GNC and even put it through the blender after mixing. I have lots of experience in bottle feeding animals and you are going to be exhausted because they need to eat every 3 to 4 hrs. Wishing you lots of luck and get your rest. Enlist lots of help!!! |
I usually don't have a problem with it clogging the nipples as long as the water is warm enough. I hope we only have to feed them for 3-4 weeks. Right now I have 3 volunteers, including my daughtet who doesn't know she volunteered. Thats what she gets for going to Vegas for the weekend. I' m trying to keep the number of people handling the pups to a minimum but still have enough help. |
How are the pups doing? Are they eating well? Are they urinating and defecating? Are they staying warm? We have a lot in common right now. I rescued a pregnant dog and her pups just turned 3 weeks old today. Momma is some type of terrier (not yorkie) and not sure what the babies dads are. She had 7 and I had to nurse them at 1 week old because one of her breast ruptured. Momma is fine now and the babies are fat and healthy. They ate canned RC today for the 1st time. It was not my intentions to start them on food...they just dove into momma's so I let them eat a little. I have been thinking about you and your pups and hoping that all are doing well. |
