Akc, Aca
 

What's the difference between the two? Is one more reputable? Mine is registered with ACA b/c her parents were. Can you get into both?

I personally will only register with AKC.. AKC is the reputable registry, JMHO.. I believe that some breeders have been suspended with AKC and that is why they register there dogs with other registries.. I have even heard stories of someone buying a dog on limited AKC papers and turning around and registering the dog with another registry to breed it! :( That is why I NEVER give the AKC puppy paperwork to the new owner until I have personally confirmed the dog has been altered!

AKC is the oldest, most reputable and strict. They do not accept ACA (American Canine Association) or any other United States registry.

Thanks. That's what I get for buying in a Pet Store (I didn't know better, now I do.) :) Not that I want to show her, just was curious.

On the ACA website the photos have NEVER changed in about three years and when I emailed the Ask-a-vet that they state is so wonderful - I never received a response. I take that all as a bad sign...BUT if you want a pet - who cares?

I will only go through AKC! :thumbup:

IMO..If you are not planning to show ..the registery does not matter.
If you are happy with the dog. That is all that matters.
Akc does not always mean better.
I have both akc and aca..my aca dogs seem to be better breed then the akc dog I have.

I will give you my honest opinion. If you want a dog to love, IT DOES'T MATTER! We have one dog from the humaine society, and she is better than any dog with papers. PAPERS DON'T MAKE THE DOG. I do have AKC dogs, but also dual registar them with the APR. There are more APR shows offered in my area, and the people at the shows are way more down to earth than the ones I've encountered at AKC shows.

ACA is a very reputable registary. They are the ones that provide alot of the search and rescue dogs in this country.

Don't let anybody make you feel bad about having a dog that is not AKC. If anyone asks you if she's registared just say "yep, she's papered." The majority of the people out there don't know that there is more than one registary.

You are quite right. Just marking limited still gives that buyer the option of taking your baby and registering him or her elsewhere. Having the dog altered is the only safe way to go.

The AKC accepts very few other registries - other registries always accept AKC paperwork.

I do register UKC to show my dogs in addition to the AKC. I have not registered any litters as of this time under any other registry. I am also told that APRI has confirmation. I may check it out just for fun and see about doing a couple shows.


With the Pet and Paws Law I think that you will see more breeders using the other registries for their pet puppies and only using the AKC when a litter produces a male/female that you intend to show or breed. This new law opens up a lot of problems for the hobby/fancier show person. The AKC is going to make thier records available to the USDA on the number of litters that we breed and the number of dogs that we own. Only large commercial breeders are going to be able to meet the USDA requirements for breeding. This law limits the number of dogs in your home, number of litters and so forth- when you are over these numbers you are required to follow the USDA rules.
