so it seems I will be going shopping tomorrow LOL ill be getting a scale, puppy wet/dry food, and keeping my eyes open for healthy bones which might be a little harder to get here in Canada but ill def be looking for them, I wont be using the milk replacer I don't want to risk it id rather go the puppy food, wealping pudding method. Bjh said about her teats becoming engorged possibly being mastitis, I noticed kenzis two back teats by her back legs are larger then the rest and appear to be full, i assumed it was because she was full of milk, how big are her back ones suppose to be? ive looked online for how they are suppose to look but I cannot find any pictures, I really hope im not becoming annoying with all these questions but u guys are so helpful Ive learned so much here from you guys and now I can care for my little girl and her babies the way they need, thank you guys for that :D |
Great im replying on my own posts now. lol so im not sure if teats are including her breast itself, that's what is swollen and looking full by her back legs the breast itself, her teats (the little nipple it self) looks smaller then the ones up front..I really swear im never raising puppies again how do u guys not stress about every little thing lol I love my kenzi so much and had her get pregnant because my sister, mom, and I wanted one of her babies (we were lucky she had three) I love my kenzi and as much as I wanted another her, ive managed to put us through more stress then I figured would happen. |

You will probably need to go by a vet office for the calcium supplement. Pet-cal is a good supplement and vets normally sell it or if there is a Petsmart in Canada you can probably get a calcium supplement there. The back teats are bigger but often get engorged to the point the pups can suckle on them. If the back teats start feeling really hard and warm you will need to get the mom on an antibiotic. Also a warm compress on them will help. Also I have heard that a cabbage compress helps. Personally I always give the amoxicillin and it clears right up. Sometimes the upper teats will get engorged too so keep and eye on all of them. Most people don't realize how stressful and dangerous raising a little of puppies can be. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Hopefully everything will go smoothly. |
