Is it normal to not feel any fetal puppy movement? Hally is due is 5 days. Her belly is huge thought she is only having 1 puppy (who we are keeping) is it normal to not feel it move? Only a couple times a day I can feel the softest tiniest kick and that's after holding her belly for 30 minutes. After that one kick it is silent again. There is no physically seeing it move like in her last litter. Is this normal? Im worried that I will have a still born :( |
Has she had an ultrasound and xray? (Sounds like you have had at least one of these done since you are aware that there is only one pup). Singletons get a lot more nourishment since they don't have to share and can end up being larger. You need to know if the pup is too large to pass through the pelvic ring and will have to be delivered by c-section. I am not a breeder, but if I were in your situation I would be in contact with my mentor and take Mom to the vet if I were worried about anything. |
What day of her heat did you first breed her and how many times did you breed her? Usually about 7 days before the pups are due you can feel light movement. As the due date gets closer the puppies will get more active. If she is only carrying one or two pups the movement will not as easy to detect. If you bred her several times then it is possible one of the later breedings took. |
She had an xray at 48 days. And we are scheduled for another tomorrow to see if he or she is too big. She was only bred one day because my sister got into a very bad car accident that day and was in icu so I was unable to bring her any other days. She was bred 10 days after first sign of blood. Im hoping maybe she didn't ovulate for a few days after and may be a couple days behind. I asked the vet last week about no movement and he said it might be because she is too early but now with her due date 5 days away I assumed he or she would be active. |
My mentor is my mother in law. She has been breeding yorkies for over 20 years. But she couldnt give me ANY advice what so ever. |
I'm glad she is going to the vet, and I hope you can get some reassurance there. In a situation like this, it's better to be hyper-vigilant, aware, and worried than to be flippant and in a fantasy world and think that nothing could possibly go wrong. (Your maternal instincts are kicking in, too). I would be a basket case in your shoes, one of the main reasons why I could never be a breeder. I'll be looking for good news from you. |

I know with Cozy when she was less than a week before her deliveries you could see the Aliens moving under her skin  |
Singleton pregnancy One of my females had a singleton pregnancy. I think what you are feeling.....or not feeling, is fairly normal for a single puppy. I had an ultrasound done early to confirm pregnancy; even with that conformation of "yes she was pregnant", I was doubting it practically til the day she delivered!! Only carrying one puppy, she didn't get really big, so I kept going back & forth..."is she, or isn't she?" Then the x-ray day came and I saw the skeleton on the x-ray with my own eyes and heard my vet say "she's got one very large puppy" (which scared the living daylights out of me). But even with that, there must not have been a whole lot of movement, and I swear I still wondered, even if just a tiny bit to the very end. Long story short, yes there was one large puppy....just shy of 7 oz. Thankfully my 6 1/2 lb girl whelped him naturally. After the fact, I would guess that with there being only one pup, movements might seem fewer & far between because the pup has more room to stretch out. Because there are only four little paws & one head in there instead of 8, 12, or more moving around, seems logical that, less paws + more room, would make movement less noticeable. Wishing you good luck with your girl; let us know how it goes. |
good luck |
