I guess, my main reason in sharing my story about the two precious "tinies" I was blessed to have in my life, was to get the point across, that, if they come from a reputable, AKC Show breeder, they can be healthy and live long lives.

So after reading the other thread that was a spin-off of this one and seeing it repeatedly mentioned that the OP was being poorly treated and tinies were being trashed I felt the need to come back and reread this entire thread.
I have found nothing that supports that. Yes, the OP was asked why she wanted a small Yorkie, so what? There wasn't any info given other than "I want a dog smaller than 4lbs." A lot of people who come to YT start out thinking that same thing because they don't know the issues that "tinies" CAN have. OP was being educated, not torn apart by any means. It was NEVER stated that all small dogs are unhealthy. It WAS stated that you MUST be more careful with the tiny ones. It was pointed out that their CAN be severe health issues with a tiny because a lot of BYB are trying for tiny size and not health. Yes, any litter can contain a naturally small pup and that pup can go on to live a full and happy, healthy life- that is not always the case, however. I have never seen any contempt for a tiny dog here on YT, let alone in this thread. Just because we warn about the possible risks doesn't mean we hate them. No one can guarantee the final adult size of a pup but REPUTABLE breeders will be able to come a lot closer to it because they know their lines. If anyone wants a tiny that is just as fine as someone who wants a tank, but they really should be aware of the possible risks. That is all.

It is always best to go to your vet or a reproductive specialist for their assessment on a breeder. I have seen 4# females do fine, 6# females have problems and the other way around. Personally, I prefer a female breeder larger than 4# but that is my personal opinion. As long as you seek counsel from the experts before breeding any male or female large or small that is most important. Not every dog is a breeder.

That's true but the experts say no females should be breed under 5 pounds.

I don't know any reputable Show breeder that would even consider breeding a female under 5#s, and even then, they measure the female to make sure she can deliver safely.

I would never have gotten my precious Kia, if she was going to be 5#s as an adult.

She was such a blessing in my life.

My yorkie puppy is 2 pounds and she is a ton of work!
