questions about breeding Chanel is almost 5 months old and i have been debating breeding her(when she is of age). so, i have a few questions: 1. how do i find a male? 2. Chanel is ckc registered, can her puppies be akc? 3. how do i register anyway? lol 4. she only weighs 2 lbs right now...too small? i have read that 6 months is full grown. 5.what are the risks? (i have heard dogs turn mean??) 6. how would i dock tails/get shots/etc. just take them to the vet? i may later have more questions. but that's all for now. thanks in advance :) |
1. how do i find a male? If your girl was big enough to breed then you would have to do a lot of research to find a suitable male and find someone you can trust to mentor you. 2. Chanel is ckc registered, can her puppies be akc? No unless you are talking about the Canadian Kennel Club then they can. 3. how do i register anyway? lol Fill out the papers and mail them in. 4. she only weighs 2 lbs right now...too small? i have read that 6 months is full grown. She will be way to small to breed. I doubt she will get over 3 1/2 lbs. 5.what are the risks? (i have heard dogs turn mean??) There are many risks in breeding tiny females. Your girls life could be in danger. 6. how would i dock tails/get shots/etc. just take them to the vet? Yes, the vet does that. Some breeders with lots of experience will do them themselves. |
how would i go about getting papers to mail in? i thought she was too small, anyway. they told me she was a "toy" but i've since done my research and found that "toy" yorkies don't exist. |
In short - spay this little girl and forget about breeding her. She's entirely too small. |

You get the papers from the breeder. I would not breed your girl if she didn't come w/AKC papers, esp if she is not Champion sired, even then, you need permission & approval from the breeder to breed her...spay her & just enjoy her as a pet, she's a cutie! |

There are many, many risks to a female when breeding. I do believe she is going to be too small to breed. CKC (Canadian Kennel Club is equivalent to AKC in Canada) However, in the US, there is also a Continental Kennel Club (CKC) and is a terrible registration, and only used by puppy mills when AKC has suspended them, or they don't follow AKC standards. And No, you can't move the CKC (Continental) to AKC. I suspect yours came from the latter and not Canada. Breeding takes years of research online, Vets, Seminars, books, and Mentors. You MUST know the genetics and health in the background of your female, as well as any male you want to use. They both need to be health tested as to not carry health problems on to your puppies, which is not always done by breeders and why Yorkies have so many health problems. Your research is a little off, as the Yorkie IS a Toy Breed. I think what you're thinking of is that she are not.. a "teacup". A Yorkie is a Yorkie, some are just smaller or larger than others. But we try for the standard of under 7 lbs. There are many dangers to females in breeding. The can go low on Calcium and die, Leave a puppy in and you miss it and die, puppy too big to get out and you're slow getting to the Vet and die, having C-sections and die, infections and die, low sugar from not eating and die, unknown health problems that didn't show up until pregnant and die, etc. etc. etc. As for picking out a male, you breed the very best quality you can afford with healthy backgrounds as well as your female. After health testing, and researching pedigrees and health, then you pick out a male that would improve the lines. Breeding is much, much more than putting 2 dogs together. Reputable breeders try to improve the breed, not just make puppies! |

A female under 5 pounds should never be breed it can risk there life and if they do make most have to have a c-section that costs a couple thousands dollars. |
I am also interested in possible breeding Yorkies. I am in the research stage before I make a decision. There is ALOT to learn :) Why would I need permission to breed a Yorkie that I owned? Also is it difficult to get previous owners to agree and approve me to do so? Thanks :) |
