How to tell if the yorkie I adopted is pregnant
 
I recently adopted (more like rescued) a three year old female yorkie. The woman I got her from said that she thought she was in heat and kept her in a little fenced off area in a yard overrun by other dogs. While the woman was inside, bringing even more dogs out, I observed a little male yorkie scale the fence and started to "dance" with her. The woman came back and took the male out before they had a chance to do anything but it made me wonder how many times had this happened without her knowledge. I have researched the early signs of yorkie pregnancy and they all say pretty much the same thing. The hard part is, I don't know what normal behavior is for her, plus any change in behavior as well as eating habits could be contributed to her adjusting to her new home. She does sleep a lot and wants to be with me all the time. She literally follows me around the house where ever I go, she's not far behind. Any information would be extremely helpful.

This whole scenario sounds risqué to say the least...anyway, sounds like you did rescue this poor thing from a less than normal situation...

First things first, you need to get this dog to a vet asap, there is no telling, given what you described what her health is, she should be vetted and you need to really explain the situation to this vet, I'm afraid for this poor girls health and there is no telling who or what got her pregnant, and she most likely is pregnant.

I agree, I would take her to a repo vet and have her spayed. Good for you for rescuing her, but I hope you will not allow her to have puppies.

Hi and welcome to YT!! You did a wonderful thing to rescue this poor baby! If she is pregnant, no telling what size dog got her pregnant and that could be really dangerous to your new pup. It could cost her the life you are trying to save.

Your vet, if this pup is pregnant, needs to terminate the pregnancy to save her life. Don't wait, see your vet asap and find out what is really going on? You rescued her to safe her life...don't stop now.

Thank you all for your concerns and advice. I have all ready made her an appointment to be groomed as well as a teeth cleaning and that anal thing they do. I have her shot records and she is up to date but I will make her an appointment with the vet as soon as possible to make sure she is healthy, abort her pregnancy (if she is pregnant) and spay her. Even though the woman I got her from only had small dogs like my Piper, I don't want to take any chances and to be quite honest, everything that I have read about yorkies having puppies scares me.

Oh that's so great, maybe they could do the teeth cleaning and spay at the same time, so that they wouldn't have to put her out twice. I really wish you and Piper the best of luck, and it sounds like she can finally be a Yorkie! That following around behavior is definitely Yorkie!

You are a very good mommy! Sounds like you have everything under control. I'm happy for you and for your new baby!!

Congratulations on your new little lady. I am sure she will bring you so much joy as you will her. Glad she is going in to be spayed, it is so much better than risking her health. Welcome to YT.
