Needing an experienced breeders help!!
 

I am needing an experienced breeders advice. I don't want someone who is gonna pass judgement just looking for some advice on helping keep these pups alive when they leave momma. Please let me know if you are willing to help and email me at margiesue_84@yahoo.com thank you.

we have a litter of yorkie's, the owner just dumped the mom at the rescue. We have lost three pups so far. One at 4 weeks with respiratory issues and now two at 9 weeks.. They were fine, but went and got shots neuter and spayed, then did okay that day but by the 2nd and 4th days became lethargic and got diarrhea. We have given sugar water like told and even brought them back to momma to nurse. We lost one before it got to momma ( mine ) and lost another one last night. What can we do to prevent this with the puppies that are left. Please help

1. Bring pups back to vet. They may have an infection.

2. Fading puppy whelping recipe make some up - it is on this forum under a stickie

3. Are they eating? If not have vet show how to tube feed.

4. Keep them warm - take their temps constantly.

And no more operations or shots particularly on the same day - gosh what a stress to their wee systems that must have been.

I don't understand why the \momma dog is not taking care of the pups? Be whatever the reason - the pups will need medical care to get them through this crisis.

Thank will for sure have her take them to the vet again. But they were not with momma when they got sick. Both had gone to new homes. Vet had checked them out that day and said they were good to go. The other pups are with momma now and doing just fine. I seen the fading puppy recipe yesterday and she was making it last night just didn't get it finished in time :(. We are seeing the problem when they leave momma. What is the best age that they can safely leave momma. This is our first time with Yorkies and we have a pregnant Yorkie that got dropped off yesterday. She is pregnant with Morkies and we want to make sure we can learn as much as possible before these babies are born. The labor and delivery went smoothly with the first momma so that isn't the issue. We are having problems when they start leaving mom to go to new homes. Please understand we are not breeders so we are inexperience but a rescue group and its better then them going to our local kill shelter :( we are just trying to help any way possible.

For the current babies, they must be treated with antibiotics ASAP!!


You must wait until those babies are at least 12 weeks old before you separate them from their momma...she will nurture and care for them much better than you can. You are going to have to know how to tube feed newborns....if they are not gaining weight, you must feed them. If you need a formula, let me know...mine delivers 16 cal/cc and you tube feed them every 2 hours around the clock, 1cc/oz of body weight. Make sure the vet does an xray on the mom to see if the puppies will fit thru the birth canal...you would rather schedule a c-section that do it emergently when mom and babies are in distress. The babies MUST be kept warm ....90-92 degrees...not directly on a heating pad...place the pad UNDER the bed so there is no way they can ooch under the cover and get directly on the heating pad.... WHEN THOSE PUPPIES ARE 3 WEEKS OLD, YOU MUST VACCINATE THEM WITH NEOPAR...THIS WILL KEEP THEM FROM CONTACTING THIS DREDFUL PARVO, WHICH IS RAMPANT IN RESCUES AND KENNELS. You will start them on their vaccinations when they are 8 weeks old....I use Vangard-5. PLEASE DO NOT SUBJECT THOSE ENFANTS TO SPAYING/NEUTERING AT SUCH A TERRIBLY EARLY AGE....I would like to suggest perhaps you charge the cost of the spay/neuter and then when the people have the surgery done at 8 months old, you can refund the money. Questions?

I want to add a sincere, heartfelt "thank you" for trying to save these babies...it takes a lot of courage to step off into an area where you know you are not knowledgable, to try to help babies that because of some insensitive, narrow minded, careless human being, the poor mom ended up bred, and then kicked to the curb. Such a sad start to life for these babies....some who have paid for some idiot human's foul up, with their little innocent lives,....I do not believe in accidents....I believe in skrew ups. This truly breaks my heart, there is so much that I want to say and that I wonder about. But like you say you need help to save these pups. I wish there was something that I could add that would be of some help to you. I will leave that to the more experienced breeders and those who have possibly dealt with this sort of thing before. I wish you much luck in finding something that can be done to save these pups lives.

OKay she took the baby that passed to the vet and they ran some tests. The vet found nothing wrong and she test for everything.. We also took the other puppies and they are all great. The vet said it was typical hypoglycemia. The vet gave her some formula. We are for sure keep the puppies that come next till 12 weeks. and will not neuter or spay till they are older.. The person getting the dog will have to sign a contract agreeing to bring the dog back to her so she can take it to the vet herself. She ordered Nurtical, and has made the liver concoction. She also bought chicken baby food. We had two females dropped at same time one is confirmed pregnant with morkies and we are pretty sure the other one is pregnant with full yorkies. We will know later and both moms are being carefully watched by vet. Thank you all for your help and advice I will be for sure passing this information on to her. Thank you all again. But wanted to let everyone know that, there is NO infection or parvo!!

Bless you for trying to help these little innocents whose owners have neither the heart nor sense to treat these helpless pups as anything more than garbage to be thrown out when they become inconvenient.

NeoPar was specifically developed to irradicate parvo in kennels and rescues and pounds....it is used now routinely to PREVENT loosing an entire kennel to parvo....As a rescue, I would investigate the vaccine, and use it to keep my babies/dogs healthy. It superceeds moms natural immunity so it reinforces the puppies immunities to parvo.
