how to know if my yorkie is pregnant Hello i am new to this sight just have a couple questions about my yorkie. I just bought a yorkie female from a lady i know she is a breeder. Phebie is a little over a yr old an when i bought her i noticed she was coming in heat so i thought well no big deal i don't have a male just her. Well i noticed when i got her she was a little chunky lol which u can tell sh3 is thicker then what she should be but i asked the lady why she was thick an she said they get what's called a fatty pack when they are in heat so i said ok. Well my friend brought her small male over so i could groom him well he payed Phebie no mind. Which i thought was odd if she was in heat well she ended up ggoing out of heat well to get to it about a week after got her she was getting sick every morning for a week then now i looked this morning an her books are swollen an purple behind them her vulva is swollen an i figured her never being bred before an her go n out of heat she would go back small down there an her little virgin fold that they have is gone. An she has a line going.g down her belly separating her boobs. i am taking her to the vet tomorrow just figured i might get some help tonight lol hope someone can help |
Could be the heat cycle, could be false pregnancy, or could be pregnant. But it's too early for me to help tell the difference. Good Luck at the Vet! |
So are you thinking that she was pregnant when you got her or that she was in heat and you knowingly let an intact male into your home and he mated with her? |
I have a vet appointment today at 130. An no i think she might have been bred when i got her it would be to a yorkie. But im just concerned because i gave her a 7 n 1 shot 2 weeks ago i had no idea she might be pregnant how do i upload pics an i will post some thank u so much for the responses. |

I did want to help you with posting pics, though. If you click on the "Go Advance" button to post a reply, then at the top of the text box where you type, you will see a little icon that looks like a paperclip. Click on that and you will get a pop up box. Click on "choose file" at the top of that and then choose the pic you want to upload off of your computer. You can do up to 4 pics. When you've done this for all the pics you want, click "Upload". Wait and let them upload. You will know if they did because they will be listed in the middle of that pop up box. Make sure the pics are no more than 200 kbs each (you can resize pics to smaller in any pic editor - like paint if you need to). Then click "Close Window" at the bottom of that pop up. Click to submit your reply and your pics will be attachments at the bottom of your post. |
Don't worry about posting belly pictures, just let us know what the vet said. It might not be too late for a mismate shot - your timelines are unclear to me how long you have had her. Once she goes out of heat you of course have the option to spay her. Given from what I have read from your posts you actually do not want to bred her, nor have done any of the recommended tests prior to breeding. |

And while it's not likely, is the breeding so important that you are willing to risk your female's life to have that litter, which could be stillborn or a singleton. I speak as one who bred two different pet years ago. I lost my beautiful Doberman pet, Cobra - my best girlfriend - and half of her puppies. The other breeding was a singleton born of our white Pekingese, Panda. The pain and loss of my Dobie girl hurts to this day and the costs associated with losing those babies of hers enormous as one was stillborn, one barely saved after birth, one died day two before my eyes with the vet trying to save it and beautiful Cobra and the other two at the vets after we went home, leaving the rest of the little family hooked to tubes and machines for roundtheclock critical care. The cost in dollars was enormous, too, for Cobra and her pups care emergency care, IH care and then their burial. The singleton wound up with me paying a huge stud fee as there was no pick of the litter and then the vet fee for delivery care. We kept the little singleton and her mom, of course. But I will never forgive myself for unwittingly putting my beautiful girl's life at risk and seeing her go away because my husband and I wanted puppies. She had no say in the matter but she is the one who died. Just be prepared that this is something that happens to even the most reputable and skilled longtime breeders and if this dog is your pet and your friend, consider that you are potentially taking her life in your hands if you do breed her. I would hate to see you come on here after the fact and ask why no one warned you in practical terms and from firsthand knowledge. Is it worth the risk of your pet's life? |
Gals I suspect she might be gone. She found out her gal wasn't pregnant. Now she has all the time to research what she should on the breeding, whelping and rearing of puppies - well at least six months maybe more. I suspect she knows a little something about breeding. Maybe not this breed. To the OP So glad we could be of help. Please visit www.ytca.org this is the National Club for the YOrkshire Terrier in your country. You could also visit Deb Jensen's site on whelping. I can only urge you to read a lot about the genetic problems with Yorkies. You can start your reading here in the Sick and Emergency threads. Please do breed for health and temperament and I do hope your young gal is healthy - although I do wonder why a "breeder" let a young female go at the late time of 12months? Did that original owner know something you didn't? |
