Newborn Puppy Cries Hi All! So my pretty Bella gave birth to six beautiful puppies last night. I haven't been able to sleep much because the runt (female 66g miracle puppy) is not nipple feeding so I have been feeding her formula every other hour. And last night one of the smaller males was SCREAMING. I finally figured out that covering the den they are in helped (there was tiny bit of air flow in the room). I set the house to 75 degrees and inside the den I put the heat pack underneath the blanket on high. I know the typical whelping areas need to be between 80-85 degrees. I also found that the puppies like to have the option to go underneath a small fleece blanket. However, I only have this during the day but any thoughts on this having them able to do this throughout the night too? It worries me. If you have any tips on newborn cries or why this happens and also tips on how to make sure that miracle puppy lives. Please please let me know. THANK YOU! |

Congrats on your new arrivals |
Congratulations on a successful whelp. I hope everything goes well with the teeny weeny one, sorry I can't help with your questions, not a breeder. |
Crying or noisy puppies are either hungry or cold. Are they gaining weight? If you aren't doing it already, you should be weighing them twice a day to check that they're gaining. As long as they are gaining weight and warm, don't worry about the peeps they make. As for the fleece, I would be too worried that the momma will get into the box and lie down on top of the fleece, squishing the puppies. I do this during the day too, but I can't check them all the time at night, so I won't take the chance to do the same at night. Is the miracle puppy gaining weight? How is she acting? |
Congrats on your bundle of joy |

Great advise ladies.... ! I totally agree, heat on low, under a blanket is best, and No flease or any other kind of blankets on the pups. Keeping the lid on and in a warm place will help provide added heat and comfort for both mamma and pups. Congrats on the pups and on a successful whelp. |
