My yorkie is pregnant/vet wants to abort My yorkie (6 lbs) is pregnant by my shorkie (10.5 lbs). I took her to the vet. Cujo and Lady tied together around March 4th. He said that she is probably pregnant and we need to abort. That she will probably die or need surgery to get the puppies out. I'm confused and do not want to lose my fav gal. Can someone tell me what they think? |
I am not a breeder so cannot give you advice on that but from all I have read here it sounds like the vet could be right. He surely has a reason for telling you this. It sounds like the male is almost twice her size and that could mean the pups would be way to big for her to have safely. I wouldn't risk her life and would take my vets advice. Welcome to YT. |
I agree. The vet knows what they are talking about and is only looking out for your little girl. As hard as is will be it would be a lot harder if you lost your little girl. |
Well, if it was me and my vet was advising me that the pregnancy was a high risk for my dog I think I would do it. Just go ahead and have her spayed at this time. Years ago I did that with my girl, I never regretted it, it was in her best interest. I hope you will listen to your vet, good luck. |
Thank you. She is scheduled to be spayed on April 9th. I just wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing. |
I agree with your vet. he must know that there is a strong chance you will lose your girl. I would do what my vet recommends. it would be a chance I wouldn't be willing to take allowing her to whelp |

Is there a reason they are waiting until the 9th? I would think prolonging the surgery is difficult to imagine, as the babies develop. I'm glad you're following Vet's advice, but would like to see the surgery done earlier. Hoping all goes well! |
