One puppy won't eat the weaning food. They are almost 5 weeks old I make them a soupy gruel which some will just eat and eat until they look like a little ball and one out of the litter would just smell it and walk away to go play and run around. He's a little lighter than the rest but extremely active. He's just not as round as the others and seem to have no interest at all in the food. Should I become concerned? |
Well, OF COURSE!!! You always have one that marches to his own beat!!! I usually take that one out and start with the same gruel you have for the others, but I will add just a little chicken or lamb baby food across the top...like icing on a cake....baby with 98% of the time, start licking up the baby food that he smells and gets down into the gruel eventually....if he wont take it on top of the gruel, just start at square one and let him lick the baby food off your finger...then mix equal parts gruel/baby food, and let him lick that off your finger, then from the saucer, then gradually decrease the baby food.... |
I always wean my by grinding up the dry puppy food and leaving it out in a small bowl for the pups to lick on. That way you don't have to worry about a mushy mess and the pups can eat when they feel like it. I put the ground up food in a small double sided bowl and I also put out a small double sided bowl of water. |
