Help! new babies Sugar had her babies on the 17th and had two little girls. She is driving me nuts! Keeps digging at her bed. Any suggestions on how to stop her. I'm afraid she is going to hurt the puppies. She keeps moving them around in the bed and digging at the blankets. What is wrong with her? Never had this problem before. |
Gracie didn't do it either the first time. She's just keeping a nest for her little ones. |
1 Attachment(s) i would suggest you get a large fleece type bed for the whelp box where the pups are. no loose blankies or towels. i have been able to use loose bedding in the past myself with no problems. neat little mommas.... :) but my courtney will dig and dig if she has loose bedding in with her babies so i use a flat bed with soft sides for them. i'm attaching a pic to give you an idea of the bed to keep her from flipping them all around under the bedding! :D (place your heat pad under the bed between it and the box on 1/2 of the box. turn it sideways if you have to. good luck! |
That is a good idea. I just hope she doesen't kill the babies before i can get her something. I tried a smaller box and she just tried to rip it apart. The little ones look ok and spunky. You would think all that flipping around would hurt them. I hope she will stay in another bed after having this one. |
a piece of a carpet remnant would work too...if you have access to any. i don't so i use the fleece beds. |
Thanks Robbie, i wouldn't have to change her box for that. She is trying to be a good mom but seems to be a nervous wreck. This is her third litter so i can't figure her out.She wasn't this excited last year. |

Sugar has settled down. She really got upset when I took them yesterday to get their tails and dewclaws cut. I put a large flannel sheet in her bed instead of the receiving blankets and she seems to be satisfied now. She is a wonderful mommy! The pups are sooo cute! tiny roly polys. One is really darker than the other one but they are both adorable.Didn't have any rug remnants but i will remember that next time. Thanks! |
