whelping box Hi you guys. I was wondering if I should already make her a whelping box? Shes only 3 days along but I was thinking I should now to get her used to it? And how do I make one? |
You need more than a whelping box, don't worry about that right now....just spend the next couple weeks reading, reading, reading...also, see if you can locate any breeders nearby you to help/mentor you? Good Luck. |
I bet by the end of this pregnancy ill know everything bout yorkie pregnancys! Aha. Will do. Thanks :) |

It is THAT attitude that makes this situation sooooo unfortunate and even dangerous. Also problematic is the inability to distinguish between factual information and "opinion". ".....I bet by the end of this pregnancy ill know everything bout yorkie pregnancys!"......and after JUST ONE pregnancy! WOW!!! |
It was just a joke. |
Even the most experienced breeder know to expect the unexpected when it comes to whelping a litter. You just never know how it will turn out, so you pray for the best to happen. |
Go here and READ, and READ.. Dog Breeding and Canine Reproduction by Debbie Jensen. Dog Breeding and Whelping guide for dog breeders. I also pm you, if you want help, just follow the link I send you. hugs, |
The whelping box is usually introduced about 1 1/2 - 2 weeks prior to whelp time, as you said to get her used to it. I've used a under the bed storage box. But yes, that won't be needed for a while though so do read and learn anything & everything you can (google Yorkie pregnancies). When in doubt, go with your gut and/or call your vet. Have him/her on standby when the time is near. |
A kiddie pool lined with an old comforter and towels would work for a whelping box. Now is a bit early to introduce one but I, personally, would be gathering my supplies and have everything ready for when the time comes. In the meantime, do everything you can to research what will happen, what could happen, what shouldn't happen, etc. YouTube always has videos that you can watch, too. |
