Question I have a male yorkie who weighs 10-lbs (Jackson) and female who weighs 10 lbs. (Miss Bella) they are 5yr old. she has been bread by Jack before and has had Wonderful babies. My question is when they are breading how many times do you shift days in him mounting her. Last time I kinda did not keep count and it must have been once a day for 3 days in a row. She had 7 puppies and did fine. But the first litter she had 3 puppies. So does it matter how many times vs how many puppies??? Also another question:) when puppies are born I can't keep from playing with them and I get scratches ALL over my arm by there nails. Afraid to cut them. So does anyone have any suggestions? thanks Cheryl |
Dogs should only be bred to better the breed and that means only yorkies that follow the standard should breed and yours do not. I also think 5 or 6 is when the females becomes to old to breed. |

I start clipping nails at 3-4wks old. Keep matings close together as you don't want fertilization of eggs too far apart. And who is your whelping coach that hasn't trained you in these basic questions? |
Question Thanks for answering my questions:) Miss Bella has only had 2 litters I did not breed her for 3yrs. so this is her 2 litter. Yes I know she does not meet the standard size But people who live in Texas around me all want yorkies who are 5-7 lbs which her puppies are in size. She is a small yorkie. So I have my vet who is my coach and has been for Years. I trust her she is on call 24-7. Thanks for everything... |
bread = is something you eat. bred= I made a bad decision and bred my 5 year old female who is too big and old to be bred. |
Bread vs bred Is this an English lesson??? |
Seriously!?? "Perhaps" that was a Typo!? Regardless... Unnecessary. |
Bread? Looks like a typo, the second post at 12.16 has the correct 'breed' spelling!!! We had better be careful here. My I pad will get me in trouble as it makes up words. LOL! |

Oh stoppppppp, we are all guilty of a bad post here and there...it didn't come out exactly the way I intended anyway, judging by your response....and I would expect a breeder to know how to spell bred....:D |

No explanation or apologies necessary!!!! This is not a spelling bee chat room. I hope you can see that we took it as a typo and had a laugh. Sorry about your hand, you are very brave to type at all! Get well soon. |

I know I am very careful with spelling now! Particularly as my I pad changes what I type and I don't always catch it. |
Question Me Too.. I found out that I have to Be VERY Careful what is posted here and just ignore the rest and Really think if its all worth posting in the first place. hahahahaha oops there is a red line with all the ha's. there is not spelling check on this one Cheryl |
It is sad that we have to watch our p's and q's here in case someone pounces on us. Glad you have the attitude to ignore unkind comments and take heed of the helpful ones. Please don't give up, there are so many wonderful people here who really want to help. I know I have been so grateful for the information I have gained here. |
Whether the posts have gone off topic or not OP your dog is to old and to off standard to breed. We love the breed here and you are not doing what is best for this breed. |
