My baby didnt expell her placentas?? My yorkie gave birth to two babies and I had to cut the cord for both. after birth we waited for placenta to be expelled but she never did. I took her to the vet about a day and half later and he gave her a shot of oxytocin, but it didnt do anything? What should I do? she doesnt seem to be in distress or running a fever, but very worried... Her babies were born late Sunday night/Monday Morning so we are going on day four today... Does anyone know how long it might take for an infection to set in, if she is going to get one??? |
I am sure your girl will be just fine. Often the placentas will come out hours after the pups are born and most of the time the mom will eat them so you will never see them. As long as she is not running a temperature she should be just fine. It is normal for them to have a greenish discharge too for a few days after the delivery. If a female is going to get an infection it usually occurs in the first 10 days after the pups are delivered. Another problem you need to watch for is mastitis. You need to feel of her teats several times a day to make sure they are not getting hard. If they start getting red, lumpy or hard then she will need some amoxicillin. Best of luck with your new babies. |
