Need advice CoCo is, my 4 year old yorkie is currently pregnant with her second litter. This time around, she is HUGE. I am really worried about her. If my calculations are right, she has 3 weeks left and she is resembling a pregnant goat. Is this normal the second time around? :confused: |
If she has 3 wks left & is huge now, I would get her to the vet for a full check up. |

Look back at the size of litters produced by the male you bred this baby to, and that will give you a better uderstanding if this is falling within his average litter size or if there is cause for concern. Of course, EVERY litter is different....I would go ahead and get xrays and see what is cooking in there....that will give you an idea how many and how big....you may be able to measure head/shoulder/pelvic ring ratios just to make sure you are not looking at a c-section delivery. I normally do not get xrays until day 58, but if there are any questions or concerns, I get them as soon as I can.....or ultra sound....but there are a lot of vets that are not good reading ultra sounds... You are absolutely certain you counted from the first tie? |

My male has had 2 litters. This will be his 3rd. The 2 previous litters were smaller, 4 and 3 pups. We had an X-ray with her first litter but I know I don't want to go too early as the pups won't show up if its too soon. She doesn't seem as bothered with her size as I am, still hoping that my dates are off! |

I might check around for an ultrasound person--sometimes they work one day a week in different vets' offices and they do the ultrasounds for a reasonalble price. She would be able to tell you how many, a better idea of the due date, and whether one horn is fuller than the other. |
Also keep in mind that she is stretched out now from her first litter so it is easier for her body to show more and faster. |
Oh it's not good! She went into labor way too early. I have 3 pups right now that did not make it. :( |
