A plasma transfusion from the stud dog has worked in saving "fading puppy syndrom" providing he had be recently vaccinated. I don't believe it has been tested in toy breed but has been successful in large breed dogs. Fading puppy is as Yorkie kid explained either intestinal or bacterial, a puppy needs mom's colostrum to protect them from infections but sometimes it's not enough. Amoxi is what most vets suggest but is not always successful. |

Yes I have experienced it.......its very sad and makes you feel helpless. Ditto on the antibiotics that is what my vet prescirbes also.......claramox and amox.........probably a good thing to keep on hand. When I got the meds the pup was already in a bad circumstance, I had waited to long, if I had had them on hand who knows. Im yet to save a failing puppy, I was very determined once with a sweet pup I knew had serious problems....her name was Candy and I posted about her here. She died at 10 weeks. Im sure there are success stories and I am so glad for those! But the truth is many have problems and I feel its better nature takes its course. Candy I should have let go because I feel I prolonged her painful illness. |
