Delilah's Whelping area... and a NEW... Idea for a whelping box, I bought this nice crate for Dyson but as with very spoiled silkies he did not want it, so I thought it would make a great whelping box for Delilah...is still a few things missing I need to put an order with Reviaval for some stuff but everything I have is out... here's some pictures... http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/IMG_3536.jpg http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/IMG_3537.jpg http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/IMG_3540.jpg |
Very nice!!!! You are ahead of me........I haven't gotten my items all put back together from our last whelp 7 weeks ago!! This next week though for sure! I do have to ask where you got the nice whelping cage??? Is that what you'd call that???? That seems kinda handy........ |
I got it off ebay.. here's the link.. this is my first time using this one.. so I will review it after I use it wit Delilah.. Dog Puppy Cage, CLS-960, Dog Kennel/Playpen, Four Colors to Choose From!! | eBay |
:)You are so perpared carmen, Its looks great, wishing Delilah a very safe whelp, I dont kno much about breeding except what i have learned here, but your room looks very nice :) sharing with others is wonderful  |
I have one but I use mine for later when the babies start moving around more. I love the nursery colors it comes in! My old back and knees have a hard time getting down on the floor to assist delivery....so I use the LifeStage puppy playpen...the one where you can bring the bottom up to within a foot or so from the top of the pen...I put it next to my bed, and then I can sit on the edge of my bed and help momma right over the side of the pen.....when it is all over, I lower the bottom of the playpen almost to the bottom of the crate, making it an enclosed crate that all can be in safely, and I can have access to everyone from the top that opens. I have an enclosed box that serves as a "cave" for momma and babies on one end of the crate, to seclude in, no drafts, secluded and private....I can open the top of the crate, and then take the top off the box for access to everyone....I love the looks of your delivery set up....it stirs my soul!!! I am waiting for three of my girls to come into heat..... |
Carmen that set up looks lovely. How high up off the floor is the bottome of the crate? I couldn't tell exactly. |
Ready, Set..... Looks great! |
thank you ladies, the bottom plastic tray in on the floor and the top is a mesh that is there with velcro, for easy reach if needed.. I have my regular whelping box but Delilah loves her regular crate and this looks like her crate so she is more confortable in it. I will be putting a heavy mat under it and an area rug to keep the room warmer, this is the begining of my guest room turning into a nursery.. |

It went from a room that was all fixed up and seldom used, into a very useful area that meets all the needs we have with these babies and mommas! It looks awsome Carmen! |
Question Ladies; I am considering changing my whelping room from what is usually used as my grooming room, to the one "next door". The benefit for the pups is that once they reach an age to go out in the backyard, it is very simple access. Just open the patio doors. Also based on more recent research, I want to add non slip mats to the puppy's area, and this means a whole lot fewer non slip mats. The drawback is, well they are patio doors, and with a winter whelp, this room can get a bit colder, although that could be handled with heat lamps. Also this is usually the room I take our adult dogs out of to go pee/poo on off hours if needed. I also love natural light and this room gets lots of it. I sleep always with the litter and either room is fine for me to put the cot in. The other benefit there is a TV in the garden room, but I would have to take out heavier furniture there to make room for the whelping box. Oh yes the minimum size of the whelping box is 4'x4' better I think 5'5' |
I think it would be nice, if you can keep the room warm, that is my main concern, I put plastic over my window in the winter even tho the windows are ok, call me paranoid..LOL, take some picture of the room and look at them and see yourself there .. that is what I do with my guest room.. hugs,:D |
I was just thinking today she would be getting close to having puppies. Great set up :) |
dear lord I almost fainted sitting down looking at this set up...I think its safe to say I will never be a breeder! Big dogs are so much easier lol...in 26 years ago I had a dog that we took in from someone who knew we wouldn't say no, turned out she was pregnant, I was there when she started dropping babies, mind you until she went in labor I didn't even know she was pregnant (big sheep dog), poor thing It was like a bad movie..I was running around with gloves, and scissors and boiling water, though I had no idea why...my elderly neighbor just stood there laughing at me, I was hysterical...she didn't need my help...good thing cuz I would have had no idea what to do, heck I hadn't even thought of calling a vet...though I took them all in the next day...oi:eek: |
