AKC registration? Is there any way to register an adult dog with AKC? I heard you could with a statement from a veterinarian that the dog is a full healthy breed. I went on the AKC website and it says to contact the seller of the dog to get the papers. I am no longer in contact with the seller. Does anyone have any suggestions? |
I think that's how you get them registered with CKC. AKC, both parents have to be registered. Did you not get the papers from the seller??? If you know the parent's full registration name, registration number and the exact birthdate of your adult, you may be able to get them. Otherwise, no such luck. Send AKC and e-mail and ask them for details. |
The only person who can authorize a puppy AKC registration is the owner of the litter in which it is born, which is the litter breeder (or breeders) of record. Or if this is an adult dog, the seller of the AKC registered dog "may" provide the registration certificate properly signed. The key word here being "may" the choice as to whether to transfer the AKC registeration is totally up to the current owner UNLESS there is a contract between owner and buyer. AKC rarely gets involved in contract disputes but it has happened. Or if the dog is imported from a country which AKC reconizes the kennel club. i.e. Canadian kennel club, English kennel club etc. |
Thanks for your help! I e-mailed AKC, so I'm just waiting to see what they say. I did not get papers with my female. I bought her from an older woman who became too ill to care for her properly. Being that she was a puppy, it was too much work for her. She said that she had papers for her and she was to send them to me (her daughter had them). The only things she sent were shot records. When I tried to contact the lady again, the phone would just ring and ring without even a voicemail. I tried going back to her apartment a couple of times and no answer. I fear the worst for her (she did seem VERY ill). All I know is Maddie's exact birthdate. No names for parents or what name she may have been registered under if she was at all. Oh well  The lady could have also been lying...you never know. She sold Maddie to me for only $1000 (which is very inexpensive for LA). She said she just wanted to get something back for what she paid, which she claimed to pay $1600. |
