Breeding questions I have a lot of questions about Breeding, my grandma breeds pugs and said she would help me but I'd really like to get all the facts about Yorkies and do some strong research before I consider doing any breeding or not. I'd like to hear from anyone that has bred and what are the pro's and cons? I really love the Yorkshire breed, I have an excellent boy Kingston with a great pedigree and it would only benefit yorkshire terriers to have more little Kingstons but I just want to make sure I know what I'm might get myself into first. I know there's a lot of cost, especially if the female has to have a c-section but what are some of the other cost? It would be awhile before I even could actually consider starting the proccess but I'd like to be informed before I decide to either nueter my boy or not or if I should start thinking about purchasing a female for the future. Any information would be so helpful. Thank you! |

http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...-answered.html I am a show breeder. Therefor I will tell you that you need to Champion your boy in the AKC, if indeed you are in the US. In Canada it is the CKC. In Europe any dog club under FCI. The cost to champion your dog may be upwards of $2000. Irrespective of the above, you really need to health test your dog. Do all the breed specific tests, to help insure you do NOT pass on genetic defects. Those costs are upwards of $500. |
Thank you Gemy, I'll go check out the link right now. :) |
I'm not a breeder but wanted to tell you THANK YOU! It is so refreshing to see someone that wants to learn and make an educated decision BEFORE they breed. Kudos to you! You're definitely in the right place to learn. I wish you much luck:) |
Thank you. There's just so much to learn! I have until September to make a decision so I just want to make sure I make the right one. |
I'm also impressed that you are going to make a decision ahead of time. Good for you. |
Go to a dog show. Get to know those breeders...Find someone who will mentor you. Imo that would be the best way. And get get connections. Alot to breeding health Yorkies. |
