prescreening health tests
 
I am not a breeder or looking to breed but I would appreciate your help in pointing me to information regarding what type of health tests should be performed on both a male and female yorkie that are going to be bred. Thank you for your help. I am leaving soon so if you have any questions I will not be able to respond until tomorrow. I am assuming a BAT should be performed, but what else and should new test be done prior to each it be breeding.

Bats should definitely be done, Patellas checked, Brucellosis as it can be picked up anywhere and can shut down a breeding program, Heart worm test, I get a full blood panel and a urinalysis done. Up to date on vaccines or titers done to make sure newborn pups have a healthy dose of immunity.

PRA, Hip Xrays, and Thryoid expanded profile, BATS. You can go beyond this for the breeding pair, with heart test, and even Elbow Xrays. Breeding pair should be clear of CT, and no obvious allergies or skin conditions.

Pra -is recommended to be repeated yearly. Submit to OFA for recording
Hip/ Elbow Xrays done once and submitted to OFA for evaluation
BATS at 16 wks and 6mths - unless symptoms ensue after this time frame

Full Blood Panel. Brucellosis test prior to breeding.

wow that is a lot of tests I have no idea what Brucellosisor Pra, but I guess I can goggle it, thanks again for the info

Usually to earn a chic certificate, the breed club has provided a specific list of health test to be preformed.
Some remain the same for all breeds and some are breed specific.
Brucellosis is an infectious disease which causes females to abort litters, Infertility can occur in males along with other ailments in both sexes. It is highly contagious as it is also shed through waste, there is no cure and most vets would advise euthanizing the animal. This test is more benefit to the breeder than a buyer.
