Interestingly, they don't have rabies here in England nor do they have heartworms (no mosquitos). In Texas, I definitely protect against both! |

They can, and do euthanize dogs for biting, if the bites are severe enough, or if the dog is considered a dangerous dog. When my son was 7 he was bitten by a friends dog, and had 37 stiches in the head, I was asked if I wanted to have the offending dog put down because head/face/neck bites are considered to be life threatening. Of course I doubt that our little ones could ever do anything that would be considered life threating, but in my state it is the law to have the rabies, and I have had one of mine have a reaction to it also, but it still beats taking the chance of them getting bit by a animal like a coon, or rat, or some other animal that can possibly carry rabies, and mine coming down with it. Don't forget, our yorkies are natural rodant hunters by their breeding, and wild rodant's snap and bite, especialy if you live in a rural area. |
Please check the brand name of rabies vaccine used. By law it must be recorded on the rabies certificate issued by your vet. Then do a google search on Fort Dodge. There have been many bad reactions to Fort Dodge vaccines including the rabies. Fort Dodge has been issued warnings by the FDA for the methods which they employ in the manufacture of vaccines and medications. These letters are posted on the FDA website. You must asked your vet to order another brand vaccine. Remember the drug companies give vets a discount for quanity of drugs ordered. Fort Dodge is famous for these practices. My vet will no longer use the Fort Dodge vaccines for toy dogs because of the adverse reactions you mentioned. |
