Sorry if I don't know that much but that's why I'm asking. Is it the word "Yorkie" that you feel is a red flag or just the word "teacup" because the puppies on the website are not being portrayed as teacup. They seem to have standard size parents and AKC papers. As I said, I am a newbie and therefore am just trying to do some research. It's not obvious to me or I wouldn't be asking. Thanks again. |

No reputable breeder breeds to produce tiny puppies. The use of the word Teacup in advertising is frowned upon by the National Yorkshire Terrier Club, the ytca.org. |
I've taken a quick look at the website. Only 2 champions listed as a Champion, and that is in the Norwich Terrier breed. Seems like this person is not showing her breeding stock to Championship. And I think it is misleading that the pictures shown on her main page, allude to the fact "she" is showing; then when you go to her sires n dams, you find out that most of her breeding stock has not been championed at all. All purebred dogs come from Champion lines, sometime in their lineage. There is no link to a Health Guarantee; that would be a caution to me. It looks like she is breeding Parti Yorkies, so obviously she can't champion them at AKC shows. The YTCA does not condone the deliberate breeding of "off color" yorkies. |

I would keep looking for someone who isn't breeding for teacups and is breeding for the betterment of the breed. It can be very confusing when first looking for a yorkie. I have had yorkies for over 40 years and still made the mistake of getting Cali from a back yard breeder and she has had multiple health issues. I love her to pieces but had a lot of heartache and expense with her. I would look for a YTCA breeder and then still ask a lot of questions. Owning a yorkie can be so much fun but getting a sick one is just heartbreaking. It's really good you are doing your research first. There are so many knowledgable people on here who can answer any questions you have. Good luck in your search. |
It is not someone I would recommend to buy from. Teacup is a marketing term, there is no such thing otherwise. Also selling champion lines by someone who doesn't show is a red flag they do not know much about the breed. There is a little female pup for sale, looks like size will be 4 lbs estimated and will sell on open papers for a higher price. :thumbdown:thumbdown Check out the YTCA breeder list Yorkshire Terrier Club of America Any breeder you talk to should be willing to answer any questions you have but way more important should be asking you a lot of questions about what you are looking for and the kind of home you can provide, previous dog/pet ownership. |
